iPad "Not Charging"

I have read the majority of the discussions on this issue. Seems to me when I use the adapter and cable that came with my iPad, and I plug it into a stardard wall outlet, the iPad's battery should charge? Defective equipment? Somebody please help.

I didn't read that anywhere. It's my observation from using my iMac. I always connect to the keyboard USB connector simply because it's easier than fumbling around in the back. I never worried about the charge state because I connect to the Mac only when the iPad is reasonably well charged to begin with. However, I did notice several times that the indicated charge increases a bit while connected unless, of course, it's already at 100%.

That is correct. Over an hour ago, the battery on my iPad was completely dead. I plugged it into a USB port on my PC, and the iPad immediately booted up. Right now, it says "Not Charging," but the battery still shows an 8% charge.

I'd also like to add that I've also been able to charge my iPad using the Griffin double-USB adapter I have plugged into my car's cigarette lighter socket. I even got the normal battery/lightning bolt icon while doing so, and it seemed to charge up about as fast as plugging it into a wall receptacle.

When it says "Not Charging", it is charging fine at lower current. It is an Apple scam to get you to buy more expensive extras like chargers for your iPad. Any everyday USB will charge it, a Bose dock will charge it, just more slowly which is better for the battery anyhow. It will always say "Not Charging" unless it is an Apple product charging it. A scam, period. Don't be suckered by Apple into buying lots of expensive goodies, that is all it is., a scam. Apple is the new IBM, all serve without question.

Personal experience. Apparently, there is a minimum charge level that turns off that message. Kinda makes sense because the mere fact that the charger is putting out current does not mean that the battery is getting charged. If the iPad is being used, the current could be consumed by the iPad electronics.
