Annoying SAFARI's "Auto Page Refresh!!"

Helo folks

When you use multipages on safari app, and go from one to the already opened other but held , you get a unasked refresh page! Helo? Im not watching a match to know the results by minutes, nor waiting for breaking news to be updated!

Its very annoying, especially when wifi is offline and i open several pages to view them after a while and when i open safari and open the pages, it will directly refresh but there is no wifi so it goes Blank ! User uploaded file

How can I make this annoying thing stop?

Just before coming to this page, I was posting a reply on another thread (iPad forums) with my ipad1. I had to switch to two other pages to look up some info (had 8 pages open) and when I got back to the page where I had filled in part of a reply, the compose panel was blank. I suddenly remembered this issue and accepted the fact that I lost my work. Then I noticed a message at the top of the panel telling me I had a draft saved and would I like to open it or delete it. I tapped "open" and my text was resurrected. Is this a new feature of the forum software?

This issue is still lingering even with iOS5 updates. The thing that frustrates me the most is that when you switch tabs, you can STILL see the content on the page, and THEN it refreshes!

This is a major flaw in the design, and trowling through the settings I couldn't find anything that would be causing this.

Several times I have lost critical information that I load on my ipad at home (where i have wifi) and then take it with me for the road, such as directions, shopping lists, etc. Lo and behold - half way along my journey i open the ipad and voila - for a moment i see my directions just before they dissappear into un-necessary page refresh land.

I also wish Apple would make real tabs which would enable faster page switching. My husband has the xoom which has tabs and I'm a little jealous of that. Come to think of it, I don't think the xoom does the refresh thing, though I'm not sure about that - I'll have to check on it.

The xoom does not auto-page-refresh. To be sure I just opened 10 tabs, and none of them auto-refreshed when I went back to them.

Also on a side note. I turned off the wifi on the xoom, pressed the home button and waited about 15 minutes. Turned the xoom back on, opened the browser back up via recently opened programs, and all 10 tabs were still open and I could still read all the web pages.

Well just in case anyone else suffers from this problem, here's the solution that worked for me: My iPad 2 was refreshing all tabs. I couldn't switch from one tab to another open tab without losing everything I was working on in the previous tab. It acted like I had just visited the web site that the tab was open to, and refreshed all graphics, text, everything. I decided to experiment and change some things and see if anything worked. Well, changing Settings>Safari>Open New Tabs in Background to OFF, did it for me. I have been opening all sorts of tabs and it's been several days and the problem hasn't returned. "Open new tabs in background" seems to have been ON when my iPad 2 shipped. Well it seems simple but it worked for me! If it helps anyone else avoid the trauma of refreshing tabs, I'm glad I shared. Happy surfing! :)
