There are a bunch of test comparing the i5 to the i7.

To me the extra $180 was worth it.

It saves the videos as .mov files, and I've imported them straight into Final Cut before. Are you saying it's better for performance?

h.264 is not an editing codec. pro res is so you convert.

Also, still hasn't really been answered, but how does Motion run? I hear the integrated graphics just won't work well with it, but I'm not sure how reasonable these remarks really are, or if they're even firsthand.

Some functionality is lost in the applications. Some filters will not load in FCP or Motion. Motion loses much of it's realtime capability, which is really the beauty of working with the application. Color will not run at all.

It says right in the tech specs for minimum requirements for the suite:

Yes, but that hasn't been updated since the new Macbook Pros came out. It could easily be referring to the Intel GMA 950 card from the original Macbooks. The Intel HD 3000 graphics are more powerful than the current NVIDIA GeForce 320 used in a few of Apple's products which run FCS for sure.

"Supported" also doesn't necessarily mean it's incompatible, it just means it hasn't been made to work with it. It could definitely run, but hasn't been tested with Apple.

Are you saying you have used Color and Motion on the new 13" firsthand or are you making assumptions?

Whatever. Do what you want. Apple says it is not supported. The power of the graphic processor is irrelevant if it is integrated with the main processor. Good luck.

A similar topic was discussed in the Color forum recently (the link is below). The point that was made in a few posts above is that Color was not designed to be used on laptops ... therefore, it is "incompatible" with a 13" MBP.

A co-worker of mine just purchased one of these new 13" MBPs. Final Cut works just fine. Motion's performance was pretty bad compared to our desktop systems. In my opinion, the 13" makes a good "rough cut" system, but I wouldn't really rely on it for any heavy duty finishing work.

i was wondering about buying the new macbook pro 13" baseline with 8GB of ram for editing on the go/"rough cut" with final cut and avid MC3 and an external hard drive, for finishing i will use my imac at home.

I usually work with AVCHD low-profile and DSLR´s.
So after reading all the posts, and for this use, it is advisable to buy one?

FCP works fine but are all the FxPlug filters and generators in it or are they missing?

i got installed only a few free Fxplug plugins on the imac, on my portable HD i have a copy of FCP documents folder from my computer but not the plugins.

What i need on the macbook pro is to transform H.264 to pro-res and an editing preview.

Hi, i called Apple care and spoke to a Genius that answered me that Color would run just fine and motion not installed at all , but a previous post here say motion would run very slow, but run and it's just fine for me.

So i bite the bullet and ordered a 13" baseline with 8GB upgrade.

Would tell in a few days my first hand experience.

That genius isn't one.
