Upgrading processor on Macbook Pro7,1

Hello,
I was wondering if it were possible to upgrade the processor on my Macbook Pro from a 2.6ghz dual core to a larger i5 quad core.
I know that it depends on the motherboard, but honestly I don't know how to find out what motherboard I have.

No, it's ot possible to upgrade the processor in any MBP or, for that matter, any other Apple notebook. Your logic board can't be replaced with one that features a quad-core processor, either.

As eww indicated, the processor cannot be replaced. This is not unique to Apple. Very few laptops have socketed CPUs. A socketed (removable) CPU requires quite a bit more space. For most modern notebooks, the CPU is soldered directly onto the motherboard.

Even if it were socketed, it'd be impossible because the Core 2 Duo and Core i3/i5/i7 have different sockets and supporting chipsets. It's typically impossible to move between CPU architectures without swapping out the entire logic board, and you definitely won't be able to do that with your notebook (nor would it be cost effective to do so).

You're better off buying a new MacBook Pro and selling the old one.
