Is there an Apple BuyBack for now back-versioned MacBook Pro customers?

I just bought a MacBook Pro 17" loaded machine in Dec 2010, $3500.00 from the Apple Store and within 90 days Apple comes out with a new MacBookPro with twice as fast core processor and 2 x the graphics card memory, for the same price! is anyone else out feeling completely depressed by this? This is not the way to treat loyal customers. Is there any policy Apple has to mitigate this?

I think Senpo needs to chill out a bit. It would be different if you purchased the thing a week before the new models came out, but in reality you still got three months of use out of a great computer. If that was the case you could have returned the item. I bought my first Mac used about two weeks (Feb 16,2011) before the 2011 models were due to come out. You know what? The rumor sites were almost 100 percent correct on what the new models would be (except for the standard SSD/HD combo) like about a month or so before their actual release. Should I wait until the 2012 models to see if they get the combo SSD/HD drives? I think not. If I want the new one, I just sell my old one and buy the new one.

I also can sympathize because $3500 is a lot of money to pay for any computer but you are dealing with technology and you have to have a mindset that your purchase is good for what you need it for NOW, not in three months. Otherwise you will NEVER get a new piece of technology because you will ALWAYS be waiting for the NEXT big thing.

We've ALL had the same problem. It's a fact of life, both in and out of tech shopping. So get used to it!

I ordered my MBP machine in Mar.2009 (in fact, the very *first* 17" unibody at the highest processor spec 2.93Ghz); and it arrived 1 April 2009. Then in late-May/early-June at one of the Apple conferences, they announced the spec upgrade to 3.06Ghz with larger HDD/SSD options and some smaller stuff improved at the same price.

Was I annoyed, a bit. But ultimately that is the way the WHOLE tech market runs, and I knew it was going to happen when I ordered anyway. I felt consoled by the fact that I bought my machine at the right time anyway -just as the first Unibodies came out- and spec upgrades are inevitable.

With Apple products (given their high cost to most people, and quality feel and usage, so not something you will update for normally 3 years - hence Applecare covers 3 years) it really pays to keep track of all the upgrades that go on AND read the press about tech ("Lightpeak" was banded around for ages, and USB3.0 will probably hit in the next upgrade or two), and take your buying decisions from it accordingly.

But always remember you CANNOT have the latest for more than a month or two EVER. Unless you are rich and can afford to upgrade 4 times a year, lol! 🙂
