Interlace lines in H.264 encode

Interlace lines in H.264 encode

While the H.264 encode is impressive... I did notice that when playing a movie full screen the scan lines are rather pronounced.

Editing the video properties to "single field" or "deinterlace" made little difference.

On this video you can really notice it during the purple and grey helicopter sequence running at regular speed - MOV file 24 megs

Thoughts?

Quad - 2.5 Ghz G5, Mac OS X (10.4), GeForce 7800 GT, 3G RAM, 250GB & 500GB internals

Oh sorry the default "High-Broadband" sorry I am not in front of my Mac right now but you know what I mean. 😉

Wow, yeah, that is rather nasty. I've been mainly encoding progressive stuff, so I haven't noticed the interlacing as much (or at all).

If I reencode to the same size using a Sorenson 3 Pro codec with an interlace filter the problem is gone. The video is darker and larger but looks cleaner.

And I'd imagine most other codecs wouldn't have a problem either. What about H.263? (regular MPEG-4) Is it just a problem with any codec under MPEG-4 in other words?
