new macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

Just looked throught this part of the forum and found out there are a lot of people out there which seem to have the same problem as me.

I purchased a new modell 2011 MBP on the very first day from our apple store.
At home, sitting directly beside the wireless router I didn´t noticed anything wrong.
I have got beside of the Mac OS a bootcamp Prt. with Windows 7 on it and everythign works fine so far.

Five days after purchased I started traveling on business and at present we are for some weeks in Melbourne. Were having a wireless connection in our appartement and here I have got massiv problems with my connection.

We are having altogether four windows mashines with us, my IPad, my Iphone, another HTC smartphone, and my new Macbook.

All the other devices connecting to our room wireless without problems. The net strengh is not fantastic but the other devices bringing it up to four bars on the windows wireless symbol in the task bar. None of the other computers where ever loosing the connection.

Only my macbook can not make it over three bars and its going on and off. Donwloads fail freuquently because the conection is interrupted more than one times..
In my opinion this problem is even worse on the Windows OS and a bit better but far away from beeing good and acpetable on the Mac Os.
I hope its only a driver issue and there is no hardware problem with the new mashine. Other than this I love the new notebook and I am very satisfied with its performance.

Iphone 4, Ipad 1 ,Macbook pro 13, I 5, 8GB, early 2011, Windows 7, Mac OS

Guys specially lupunus instead of trying to educate people on what is MB vs Mbit and showing people networking books, we are dealing with a wireless issue on a specific model of spefic line of MacBooks Pro, this is NOT a NETWORKING issue. The issue what Im demostration happenes on new equipment while doing somethign specific. This is not a networking issue!!!

mfwells,

I'm contributing along these forums for just a couple of weeks, but I use the Community for years now to find answers, hints and help if I stuck on a problem with a Mac.

I've learned along that timeline, that "Csound1" exactly knows what he writes and also have a lot of knowledge and experience about Mac's, networks, wireless and the technical hustle that can occur with either of them.

I suggest to lent him a ear (as we are on a written form better an eye 🙂) and read his advice carefully.

The demonstration is useless as it occur in every wireless network under the given parameters, as long as at least QOS (Quality of Service) is enabled to priories user data. Disregarding other reasons why the reported behavior may occur e.g. the traffic has reached the maximum capacity of the line.

"I just bought a brand new AirPort Extreme thel atest and greatest one. Connected it from the box setup 2.4 and 5 network connected my NAS and my MBP to it transferred a 300MB file, while speed of transfer is amazing peak 22mbps. Here is a ping at the same time."

And what steps have you taken to verify that it is not the NAS, particularly after any updates to your computer's OS may have occurred. What security set up are you using with this new AE? Have you verified that it is the ideal method for both the computer and the NAS. Have you verified that there is nothing that could be a source of interference in your own possession or at a neighbors

These are questions you would probably be asking your clients but you fail to mention the answers and the solution could lie in those details.

Okay, I have exactly the same Problem (lost Packets under heavy load) when Pinging sth.

So how could it be that I have this Problem only with my MBP 2011 running Lion, but not with my MacBook air also with Lion and not with my Netbook running Ubuntu Linux. The Problem also does not exist when I install Ubuntu on the MBP 2011. So it has nothing to do with the hardware, but def. with sth. of the software. Also I have this issue with three differnt Routers, always the same, MBP 2011 has dropping Packets and from time to time heavy problems when I try to load a page. In contrast when running Linux, on this Machine or when I use my MacBook air, or Netbook with Ubuntu no Problems at all!

I do not get the point why this is ignored, and peopla try to tell others that this is normal!!

Go to a Apple store, transfer a big file and Ping, you will have packet loss with every 2011 MBP, but not with the MacBook airs! So please explain this!

That's a point to set the lever on.

This issue was attributed to the fact that with the release of 10.7, Apple discontinued support for DHX authentication and implemented, in its place, DHX2 authentication. DHX is an Apple authentication protocol. The change from DHX to DHX2 is the result of upgrading Netatalk.

For that a lot of NAS-Systems produce trouble now, as some NAS developers had fail to update their firmware.

I have plenty of wireless knowledge thanks

You stated:

1. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the infrastructure, antenna placement, etc....etc.....of the WAP and the laptop.

2. There is also nothing wrong with the interference(s)...only possible sources are 802.11g and n networks located 50-100 + ft. away, on different channel(s), etc....etc... and very low signal levels.

So I'll take you at your word that your wireless is working correctly (even without testing) and leave you to fix it with help from others.

On a early 2011 MacBook Pro ?

@everyone else.

There is no issue with NAS, this happenes under SL and Lion on this MacBook and the one I exchange it for. This did not happen on 2 MBP before that (earlier models not 2011), this happens conencting to SMB share, FTP, AFP, on this NAS on APBE connected drive on anything else connected to my network thats able to sustain this speeds to the MacBook Pro and only to this Early Model MacBook Pro.

I tried this same test in Apple Stores in NY Metro Area and all of them have the same issue. Even hitting 22MB/s which is around 176megabits should not show that much drop and actually on any other device this does not show this much drop approching this same speeds.

Please dont make me look stupid or disregard me not knowing what I`m talking about, since February I made many many diffrent test and many diffrent locations. All Early 2011 Macbook Pros have this issue. I havent seen one that doesnt. If yours doesnt please prove it, send a screen shot with 3 things in it (and not a photoshoped one) with Activity monitor showing current speed, the transfer bar, and an open Terminal with a ping to something local.

Just to add I can put an early 2011 MBP next to earlier model and do the same test, the other MBP will not drop 1 ping!

@Csound1

I`m not asking you about the other machines.

Please once again on a Early 2011 MBP open terminal with a ping to something local like your gateway while transfering a large file approching high speeds. Do packets start to drop ? Let the transfer finish. Try it dont just say they dont try it and see...... and if you can take a screenshot of that so I have proof for me and apple store.

If you show me that they dont. I`ll be in my local apple store tommorow eather replacing this macbook from February or asking them to switch logic board, WIFI cards etc...
