new macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

Just looked throught this part of the forum and found out there are a lot of people out there which seem to have the same problem as me.

I purchased a new modell 2011 MBP on the very first day from our apple store.
At home, sitting directly beside the wireless router I didn´t noticed anything wrong.
I have got beside of the Mac OS a bootcamp Prt. with Windows 7 on it and everythign works fine so far.

Five days after purchased I started traveling on business and at present we are for some weeks in Melbourne. Were having a wireless connection in our appartement and here I have got massiv problems with my connection.

We are having altogether four windows mashines with us, my IPad, my Iphone, another HTC smartphone, and my new Macbook.

All the other devices connecting to our room wireless without problems. The net strengh is not fantastic but the other devices bringing it up to four bars on the windows wireless symbol in the task bar. None of the other computers where ever loosing the connection.

Only my macbook can not make it over three bars and its going on and off. Donwloads fail freuquently because the conection is interrupted more than one times..
In my opinion this problem is even worse on the Windows OS and a bit better but far away from beeing good and acpetable on the Mac Os.
I hope its only a driver issue and there is no hardware problem with the new mashine. Other than this I love the new notebook and I am very satisfied with its performance.

Iphone 4, Ipad 1 ,Macbook pro 13, I 5, 8GB, early 2011, Windows 7, Mac OS

Hi all,

I had posted yesterday that switching out my MacBook pro 2011 fixed all my issues. Today, however, after booting up, my wifi is much weaker. I cannot connectmto Skype or gotomeeting and certain websites, like gmail, are very slow. This is a complete deal breaker for me. I'm thinking of reverting to my 2007 MacBook pro and a previous system or buying a temporary until this issue is fixed. It's probably both software and hardware given my issues and that I've already tried two separate installs - one which was a complete system wipe.

I'm in the Portkand area so I'm going to try to find an independent tech rather than going through Apple. It's just sucking my time and I'm missing my creative consultant deadlines.

I'm considering all options - including taking my MacBook pro (just replaced) and getting ancash refund from apple and using that for another computer until this is resolved. I'll try some more routers today too. I'll also try buying a signal booster. I seem to be having the same issues when I also plug into a hard Ethernet cable on multiple networks.... No Skype connectivity and slow web performance on certain sites.

This points to a software issue but with everything I've tried, and being on my second computer, I'm just not sure what to do - I'm writing this forum message on my iPad - which is the only reliable way I can send out large files and login to most websites.

Comments certainly welcome; I've never had an apple issue like this and honestly don't know what to do. I am happy to keep throwing money and time at this problem, it's getting me nowhere.

Thanks,

Noah

Obviously it was not a hardware or lion fault what caused your wireless trouble.

As said many times before .... a clear troubleshoot of the wireless infrastructure will ease your trouble.

Hi Lupunus,

I agree with you, but I have been troubleshooting for months. Also, the problem is with my networking in general; it is not isolated to my wifi. I'm happy to pay for any professional consulting to resolve this issue; I have tried many of the solutions offered on this forum, been taking my ping data and have had three separate genius bar appointments.

Thanks, but I need to fix this so I can get back to work.

Cheers,

Noah

This is not a new mbp issue, my early 09 mbp is currently had this issue for over three months now, I have tried three different routers still same.

Weak signal "if any"

dropping conection at random.

I have cable internet, My ps3, xbox360, free to air sat, and 2 alien ware don't have a single issue ever.

For once i wish apple would take there customers complaints seriously. As many threads I have read they have to realize this is a everybody issue. I love my Mbp over everything I have ever owned. But i will say this is getting to the point I might walk away from apple all together.

There's a great article on Macfixit.com just published about wifi problems and troubleshooting, at least it's going to help eliminate your router if you're at the point of buying a new one. Some great points I've not seen on here, logical back to basics........

So, I spent a long time on the phone with Apple today going through this issue. To make a very long story short (I have many posts on this forum thread), we discovered some odd startup items in my main system library folder.

I'm pleased to report that solved all my problems - just some non-compatible startup items in my system folder. After six months with virtually no skype connectivity and slow internet I'm very happy to be back up and running.

Best of luck to all of you,

Noah

Sure, the items were a Smart Raider reporter item, TCPPep (enabled when I need the web for my sat phone), A BusyCal item (probably okay but I trashed it anyway), QMaster (that's for final cut - and we kept that), and perhaps one or two others. These were in my users library, not in the system.

We tried re-booting into the recovery partition, but I still had the issue. From some reseason the startup item effected all users.

Anyway, it's been great to have functionality back. The tech (I had to be transferred to a senior tech) I spoke with was stumped for awhile but he said he has seen this issue a couple of times now.

I think it's worth paying for the phone support, even if you've lost it (after the 90 days). If you persist on the phone though, and explain you've been having the issues for months, Apple will probably waive their policy and take your call. In my case, and others on this forum, they have already changed out our macbook pros - given us new computers - to try and help solve this. For those with macbook pros and repeated connectivity issues, I hope for at least one of you it'll be startup items. My phone call took about an hour and a half - and it was probably my third call to Apple (in addition to 2 genius bar appointments) about this issue but we've solved the problem.

I was also having some issues copying large files on my RAID drive and that issue has also disappeared.

I also have problems with the wi-fi!! I got my mbp a few days ago and I've been having wi-fi problems since then.

I live in a small one bedroom house and my rooter is in the livingroom. Wi-Fi works well in the livingroom but when I try it in my room, which is only about 10 meters away, the signal drops drammatically, to the point that it doesn't even open google.

The signal in my five year old toshiba laptop is good in my room, only slightly slower than in the livingroom.

I guess this means that there is a hardware problem with my mpb or could it be a software issue?

This is my first apple computer and so far I am really dissapointed.

Thanks

Are the walls build in a dry walling (plaster) style?

Any high voltage wire or water piping in the walls?

What's your router model? Which protocol is used; e.g. 802.11g?
