iOS 4.3 cannot connect to 802.11n at 5.0 GHz

I just updated to iOS 4.3 (from 4.2.1) on my first generation iPad. I have a Time Capsule running a 2.4 GHz network and a Linksys E2000 setup as a network bridge (DHCP and NAT disabled) running a 5.0 GHz network. I live near a college and need the 5.0 GHz network because there are at least ten 2.4-based networks in the area.

Before the update to iOS 4.3 my iPad was able to connect and use the 5.0 GHz network without issue. Immediately after the update it reports it cannot connect to the network. My wife's iPad, still running 4.2.1, can connect to the 5.0 GHz network without issue. I have removed the WPA2 key and ran the network unsecure for a couple of minutes but that didn't resolve the issue. When I re-enabled WPA2 I also changed the Linksys to use 2.4 GHz instead of 5.0 GHz; the iPad connected immediately. When I changed it back to 5.0 GHz the iPad immediately would no longer connect.

I am quite familiar with networks and, despite having two routers on the same network, they are configured properly and this setup has worked for months. Indeed, it still does work with my iMac and wife's iPad (running 4.2.1).

Is anyone else having difficulty using the 5.0 GHz spectrum after this OS update?

Thanks!

iMac (Late 2009), Core i5 2.66 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.6), 16 GB iPhone 4, 16 GB iPad (1st Gen.), Apple TV (1st Gen.)

I had the same problem. Hwever this course of action worked:

1. Touch ">" symbol to the right of your network name.

2. Touch the "Forget your network" pad.

3. Go to the list of networks and choose "Other" by touching ">" sign.

4. Type the name of your network. Touch ">" sign to choose security. Then in my case nothing happened, but when I touched the backarrow pad, I was presented with a choice to input my password. After you typed in the password, there will be a button on your "virtual keyboard" that says "Join". Touch the button and you should be on your way.

It worked for me, but I find the whole experience incredibly puzzling and not to Apple's usual standards of simple interfaces.

I just talked to apple phone support. They are only just becoming aware of this, and apple will start watching these threads now.

Some ppl don't notice this 4.3 "oops" because their routers run in mixed A/N modes @ 5ghz, and after iOS 4.3 the iPad and atv2 cant do 5ghz N, but will fall back to 5ghz A if the router is in mixed mode. The rep said most ppl with apple routers are probably in mixed mode and they should verify if they truly can or can't to N at 5ghz but putting the apple router into dedicated N only mode. Apple wants to know if this problem is isolated to just non airport routers

If ur stuck with 4.3 on an iPad or ATV or ATV2, and cant do 802.11n @ 5ghz, call apple. The more ppl who call, the faster 4.3.1 gets pushed out with fixes

I'm having the same problem after upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3. Using a d-link router at home with wireless N, and iphone can't connect at all, but wireless g network at work is fine. Also tried changing settings in router at home back to wireless G and iphone connects fine. iphone was working fine on wireless N before the upgrade to ios 4.3. Took it into the apple store, and they said I needed to take my router in for them to have a look at. Apparently 'no one else is having this problem'. They didn't get the point that the upgrade to 4.3 stopped it working!

Anyone else thinking of coming to buy a HTC Desire HD with me!? :o)

I upgraded my iPhone4 to 4.3 last night and it's killed my N only connection! I have a Linksys WRT320n router and has been faultless on N only, 2.4ghz for my iPhone4, iPad and my girlfriends iphone4. I've only upgraded my iPhone so far, as I don't trust 4.3 to go on the other devices in my household! 4.2.1 was solid for me.

I tried changing my router (which is on latest firmware) to have no wireless security key, disabled DHCP and used static ip on my phone, changed to 5ghz, reset the router, reset the iphones network settings, manually input the network details, deleted the ipsw file and restored my phone as a new one. Nothing worked in any combination apart from downgrading my wireless settings on my router to either mixed mode, or B or G only (which I'm not happy about as ALL devices in my house are N compatible.

I reported this to Apple today and they told me that no one has reported this issue to them yet! I pointed them to these forums to say that many people are having this problem and something MUST be done about it. My call has now been logged and escalated to senior technicians.

So please people, report this officially to Apple otherwise nothing will get sorted for some time and we've paid hard earned cash for these devices, only for another flakey update to spoil them again!
