Texting on mac

I was wondering if there is any way I can connect my iphone 4 to my macbook pro and text using the macbook. I know that there are apps that let you text people on the mac but I was wondering if I can use my phone number and contact list.

I don't think there is a way to do that...

As an alternative known way to text from your Mac, have you tried Google Voice? http://voice.google.com/

GV gives you a free number, unlimited texting & calling to the USA & Canada.

you don't say what carrier you are on or anything, but i'm on att and if i want i can log into my account online and send texts right from there to any of my contacts. will that be an option for you?
