Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
I mean the AAC 6 channels sound from my ripped movies with Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper for Mac.
The AAC 6 channels (or you call it 5.1) previously played beautifully in all my idevices. However, after upgrading to iOS 4.3 no sound anymore. Only the AAC 2 channels sound works now.
AC3 5.1 works no problem through my AV receiver.
4.2.2 is out. Still flickering. I used to think the problem occurred on the wake event, so I left it on all the time, but it still flickered. I've now observed that it occurs if I switch the TV on or change input from a different device to the Apple TV. There is a problem when the TV starts receiving the signal--that's when it occurs.
They've fixed an annoying issue where it wouldn't display the long description, or any description, for most TV episodes. However, it only displays the short description for movies (I thought they fixed that in an earlier version?) and it's still sorting podcasts starting with "The" under "T".
Are you able to check on your TV to see if it is receiving a 50Hz or 60Hz signal from the ATV2? I think this flickering issue might come from the fact that ATV2 outputs at 50Hz on some TV's since the 4.3 update...
I have same problem than Japester. My tv is Sony 52W4000 and I've connected atv through receiver (Yamaha). My receiver does NOT scale signals from HDMI-input.
Here is video (16MB) about the issue:
You can see flickering on the top of the screen two times in that video.

This is a good point. I can't see any way to set the frequency on my TV. I'm in Australia. I presume one of these is standard for my region.
You don't set the frequency on the tv, ATV2 decides whether it outputs at either 50Hz or 60Hz. You might be able to view info on your tv for your HDMI input to see what frequency ATV2 is outputting at.
Australia is a PAL region, so it's quite possible that ATV2 is seeing your TV as a PAL tv and outputting @ 50Hz. Despite the fact that your TV will accept a 60Hz signal just fine.
I don't know if this flicker issue is related to the 50Hz/60Hz issue, but I think it possibly is. Since the 4.3 update, ATV2 is outputting at 50Hz on a lot of tv's, where as before it was outputting at 60Hz. The majority of users might not realise this.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem...I have the flicker too...I have to umplug my apple tv and put it in a different input.....I have a Sharp Aquos LC-52D78UN...52 inch...flickers after i change the source or after waking from sleep....please I just got mine and I want to bring it back and tell nobody to get one...it ***** to because I like it.
I can't see anywhere on my TV that tells me the Hz unfortunately.
You can access Sony Service Menu by pressing:
i+
5
Volume+
On/standby
And from there you can check software version. I had 1.12 and latest is 4.14. I just called to service and they are going to send me latest software with memorystick. I hope that helps with this issue. I'll keep you informed.
Thanks but no good. i+ gives me an overlay with input, resolution, stero and wide mode. 5 changes input to channel 5. Volume + increases volume, On/Standby turns it off. Pressing all 4 at once just increases volume. What am I doing wrong?
Sorry... First: Turn your tv off (from remote) and after that press those keys on that order.
Okay, thanks. It took two tries, but I've got it now. This is what I've got when I enter Product Version:
TM Version: 2.09
TM Boot Version: 34
TM NVM Version: 2001
VM Version: 1.060
VM Boot Version: 1000
VM NVM Version: 1001
DM Version: 02.23.202
DM Boot Version: 00.76.24
Factory Data: 11111111
If TM Version is the version number, it looks like I'm behind too. Let me know what happens with your update. Thanks.
Do Sony think that a firmware update will help? Now that we've spent time on this version business, I realise I forgot to ask how that happened. Was it their suggestion? Are they aware of this problem with Apple TVs?
