Canon MF8330Cdn not printing text

Last week I migrated from my MacBook Pro early 2008 to a MacBook Pro early 2011.
On my old mac and also on the MacBook Air late 2010 of my wife printing to our Canon i-Sensys MF8330Cdn works fine.
On my new Mac only the graphics are printed and no text. This happens with the printer test page and all other printed pages.
I reinstalled the Canon driver (Mac UFRII Printer Driver V2.01 EN) and resetted the Mac printing system many times many times now without result.
I even tried rebooting in 32-bit kernel mode, because these new Macs unlike my old Mac appear to boot in 64-bits kernel mode by default now.
In the console log I find 19 times the following error message:
08-03-11 23:57:12 MF8330_3842ed[735] ATSFontGetFileReference failed: error -50
Which hints at a problem with fonts.
On the internet I find that Apple marked this API call as deprecated a few years ago.
Can it be that Apple removed support for this call from the CUPS API recently?

Another problem that occurs now is that the printer driver does not honor the configuration settings. I configurer it for type-2 paper (70..90 grams) but upon printing the printer halts with the message that it does not has type-1 paper loaded so I need to press a button before it starts printing.

Does anyone else have this problem or has an idea how to solve this short of reinstalling OSX from scratch and hoping that this solves the problem???

regards,

Chris J O.

Yes, the installation of the April 1, 2011 printer driver returned text printing to my client's Canon Color imageCLASS MF8350Cdn. All now is well. Thank you so much for the postings on this forum. Great work.

Shoot!: So I've downloaded the new driver and the printer has resumed printing text. However, now the printer will not share across our computers. When I try to print using Sharing from the connected computer to the printer, an error comes up: Canon CMFP Printer Driver, which says the printer is not responding. This has never been an issue up until we updated our OS / needed to update the 8350cdn printer driver.

Any help would be fantastic.

I am having trouble updating this. I am not a computer "tecky" and I am trying to make invitations for my mother's wedding on my Canon printer. I am having trouble because it is only printing graphics and not text. I have a Canon MX870. I tried downloading that link but it did not make a difference for me. Is there something that I need to do after I press the "Install" button and try printing. Do I need to change settings somewhere else, or is it just not printing because my computer is not an 8300 version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The issue with the text not printing after the 10.6.7 update was only an issue with Canon's UFR2 and CAPT drivers. I don't believe that the Canon inkjet drivers suffered the same problem as the Canon Laser and MF drivers mentioned. So the links in this thread will not be of any use to your MX870.

For no text printing I suggest you check the black ink tank. The MX870 has two black inks - one for text printing and one for enhancing colour printing. Maybe the text black has run out? To check it, on the MX870 press the Setup button and then arrow left to the display ink menu and then press the OK button. You will see all the colours and their supply levels. If the black that is second from the right on the display is low then this is your issue.

If the black tank level is good then perform a nozzle test as the print head could have an issue. Press the Setup button, select the Maintenance menu (usually the default menu displayed) and press OK. Then select 'Print nozzle check pattern' (again the default selection) and press OK. With Yes highlighted press OK. The printed page shows all the individual tanks. The top print, which uses pigment black (PGBK) to print text will show vertical and horizontal lines in a grid pattern. If you see the grid without missing lines then the print head is okay. But if there are lines missing in the grid or no lines at all then the head is clogged and needs cleaning, which is also available via the MX870 menus. If cleaning does not resolve the problem then contact your local Canon support.

Thank you so much for your help. I'm grateful for your suggestions. It did turn out that the second black ink was low. It was confusing because I saw that there was another black in that was full and did not think it was this issue. The ink is now replaced, the invitations are working and I just got them out in time!!!!

Thanks again.....much appreciated.
