metadata problems after update

Just to clarify: When I used iTunes 10.1, I never had any issue with descriptions not displaying properly on the ATV2 no matter the version. ATV2 4.2.1 worked flawlessly (displaying descriptions) when running 4.2.1 and iTunes 10.1. FYI: Going back to 10.1 can be an a** pain! You'll have to delete your iTunes library and start over.
Ah ok, so the problems were just between iTunes 10.2.2 and ATV2 4.3(4.2.1). The new ATV2 update has sorted it's issue, and we just need an iTunes update now...
Yeah, I'm aware of that. It wouldn't be too painful, as all my media is stored externally, with all artwork embedded, so it's just a case of dragging and dropping the folder into iTunes, and letting it scan it all in again, 10mins max.
Yeah, and that's what makes this discrepancy so confusing for me. Instead of focusing on just displaying the descriptions on the ATV2 (with the new software - 4.2.2), Apple should fix iTunes. Once iTunes is fixed, both the ATV2 and iPad will display metadata correctly and they wouldn't need to push only ATV2 updates.
Again, me guessing here, but it's almost like everyone at Apple isn't on the same page (iTunes team, mobile team, ATV team etc).
It's a strange one, but both the ATV2 and iTunes required a fix. So we await the iTunes fix now....
Yeah, I think you're right there.
No issues at all. Only problem is that iTunes is looking for the meta data field "Description" You all have filled in the meta-data field "Long Description"
Use Subler to add the extra "Description" field and you are fine.
I checked my whole library, hundreds of movies and series. They are all fine. Showing nicely the meta-data like Actors, genre, HD Movie, rating etc etc on thr aTV2

I just tested iTunes 10.3 and I have some good news...the problem has been fixed!! All descriptions are now working correctly (both sort and long) on the Apple TV 2, iPad and iPhone thanks to the new version of iTunes.
Yes the problems do seem to have been addressed on all fronts, but it seems like its not that easy. Anything I’ve added in the interim seems to only describe the short descriptions on movies or no descriptions for TV show on the iPad. Not a huge deal. Mostly a hassle, but I’m glad the fixed it.
@ tsdesigns,
Just out of curiosity, did you upgrade from iTunes 10.2 to 10.3? I think that might be your problem (10.2 was a mess). See if this corrects your problem: remove an item (movie for example) from your iTunes library then re-add it into 10.3. See if the descriptions start working on your ATV2, iPad etc.
I upgraded to 10.3 but everything I added while using 10.2 isn’t showing long descriptions on my iPad for both movies and TV shows. But this was a helpful suggestion (I tried is and it worked fine) because I can just drag it out of iTunes and then back in and it works fine. I thought I had to retag everything I’ve added in the last few months, but this is much simpler so thanks!

No worries, I'm glad it worked out! I'm just happy Apple got iTunes working correctly again!! Let's hope version 10.4 and later doesn't reintroduce the problem again.
