metadata problems after update

After having applied todays 4.3 update onto my ATV2 any videos that i add to the library after the update show up on the tv without the descriptions. Name, Show, actor is all fine, just the descriptions are missing. Any one have any ideas on this?

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Yes I see the same thing, I removed a movie and repopulated, the description disappeared. Although the description still exists in iTunes, I suspect this is an issue in the iTunes update rather than the Apple tv update.

I have this issue too; it's really frustrating and I can't believe it wasn't an intentional change - just one without regard for its customer base.

It would be nice if Apple produced some kind of known bugs/issues list that it was actively working on. Would give us some kind of feeling that they are actually doing something about this (the joys of customer service or lack of it!).

It does not matter what the genre name is, or whether you have an apostrophe or not. The same issue happens after the iOS 4.2 update in Apple TV, along with all of the recent updates that hit the iOS 4.3 software and iTunes 10.2 software. Some sort of bug confirmed by the dozens of Apple TV 2 customers who post on these discussion boards. I hope that Apple notices the 1000+ views and lots of discussion replies. We need to keep posting about it, since we are all now working with what seems to be "beta software" and hope that enough voices will convince Apple to update the Apple TV 2 software soon after its just released "updated" version of its iOS software...

Along with the obvious "Flicker problem" seen on many HDTVs after this recent 4.2 Apple TV update, maybe the combined efforts of the hundreds of discussion board posts will move Apple in the right direction.

Yeah same problem here, I have quite a large library of HD and SD movies on an external drive connected via airport and several movies won't now play and others are quitting after a short while (drop outs etc) after the Apple TV and iTunes updates.

I have re-encoded 1 problem movie that was previously encoded on the Handbrake Apple TV 2 setting, and now using the original Apple TV setting, this now works fine but is going to be a real pain (not to mention time consuming) re-encoding all the problem movies.

Can anyone help with both the movie data and the movie not playing issue.

Same for me. I digitized my entire movie collection which took me many months and after this firmware none of my blu ray conversions work (had to reencode the blu rays with handbrake to get them to work now when they worked fine before with old firmware using pavtube)and none of the descriptions show up in apple tv now either. Thankfully the vast majority of my collection was DVD and they still work. This represents many hundreds of hours of work on my part and it was wiped out in a matter of minutes by this untested firmware and itunes release. I am NOT a happy camper right now. No way NO how I install this garbage on my iphone4 because I'm sure it will probably break my car connectivity judging by how it wrecked my appletv's. Fix it now!

I contacted apple as my Apple TV was still under telephone support. They had me restore the Apple TV, which did not fix the problem. Now they want me to take the Apple TV to the nearest store and swap it for a new one, though I'm very confused how a software problem is causing a hardware problem, when I asked about this they indicated that this bug was something that they were looking into and they wanted to get their hands on hardware with this bug to "look into it further".

As others may have mentioned, I actually didn't update iTunes until after the ATV2 upgrade, and I lost of the metadata immediately after the 4.2 upgrade and before I updated iTunes. I actually updated iTunes at that point, thinking it was an issue with them being out-of-sync perhaps, but updating iTunes did not fix the problem. I have lost (in ATV2) all the video descriptions. They still exist in iTunes.
