Home Sharing drop out with Apple TV2

Just did the updates for i-tunes (10.2.1), ATV2 (4.2), and Ipad (4.3). And what I'm getting is when I stream from the computer using the ipad remote app, music starts then just stops. I go to ATV settings and turn airplay off then back on, then the music start again. Then goes out again. But if I just use the ATV, music, photos, YouTube, movies, etc.. everything works fine. It just when I stream. ATV show strong WI-FI signal. Never had any issues until I did the updates. Tried rebooting ATV, did a restart on the computer. NO GO. I'm thinking it's a home sharing issue but I don't really know. Has anyone else having any problems since the new updates? Or any ideas on what I should try. Any help would be great...
Thanks

The new update added an interesting twist for me... I have been monitoring it since the update and this is what I have found. My ATV2 in the family room will drop connection to iTunes Homesharing 2-3 times in the first 30 minutes of starting a movie and then be fine for the entire duration of the movie. The ATV2 in my bedroom will not drop connection at all! Both are set up the EXACT same way and are wireless... This is ridiculous!

okay, seriously? I was able to cope with AT2 dropping out once a day… now… ^**&^YT^&@#h it drops out every 3 minutes and renders my AT2 pretty much useless. I am planning, if this does not get rectified to go to the apple store and shove it up the manager's ……… so they can call STeve Jobs and tell him … I will then put in a formal complaint and go to the media, Crikey, The Punch… whatever… sick of this BS.

Well, I always suspected that Apple was not really interested in it's customers when things go wrong!!!! But always liked the design and was happy to buy in to the apparent ease of use, etc.

But a company who doesn't make it easy to talk to them about real issues and is so secretive you can't even gain solace from knowing a fix is in the Pipeline F••k 'em.

I'm fed up to the back teeth with my investment with apple and am giving my 2 ATV's away at work to any of the apple muppets who swear they are the best company in the world!!!!!

I've just ordered a Samsung Smart TV. Does everything in the box and works. Great design just looks like a TV no boxes to plug in. Simple.

I'm never likely to buy apple again.

I own a apple ipod touch 4g and a mac pro, which I love, but this apple 2 tv is getting me frustrated, I'll keep it espically for netflix, which others don't see that much easier to use, I stream videos I have at home onto it, so the samsung one is useless to me, I might get a wdtv plus, and the times I had to call apple I had good customer service, imo any company somtimes you have to call a few times to get someone who's good. I just hope they fix it soon.

I think I may have found a fix to the rebooting issue. I'm not sure if you guys are also sharing photos from iTunes, but I disabled that, as well as changed the screensaver on the ATV2 from my photos (the ones being shared from iTunes) to the default "Flowers". So far, I have not had rebooting occur on both ATV2's that I have (both connected to the network via Wifi).

Hope that helps!

I too am having the problems everyone is describing. I recently bought my apple TV2 and have had problems with it from the get-go. I won't reiterate the problem because we all seem to having the same issue, but I am almost positive that it has nothing to do with itunes or wifi or the router. I am running a macbook pro and and a computer with windows xp on it and they both drop off the "computers" list when it "goes out" and neither will come back up without rebooting the apple tv.

The other issue that I am seeing, that I haven't heard anybody mention is that the led light on the front of the unit goes out when I put it in to sleep mode, but once it loses it connectivity to the "computers" it comes back on (although the unit is still not broadcasting a signal to the tv and appears to still be in sleep mode). Sometimes the light stays off for an hour and sometimes it is just mintues, but regardless when I take the unit out of sleep mode it has disconnected from the computers. If the light is still off and I awaken it out of sleep mode the computers are still connected.... Has anyone else noticed this?

Also, when it has lost connectivity to the computers when I awaken it out of sleep mode it is no longer highlightening the option under the settings menu to "sleep now", instead it is highlightening the "top movies".......

All details that probably mean nothing, but it seems to me that the unit is shorting-out or something..... The network connection and netflix stays intact...

I can't imagine that everybody that owns an apple TV2 is having this problem, so has anyone here tried exchanging or returning their apple TV2 and finding relief from this problem?

I just bought mine a week ago, and am considering exchanging it to see if that fixes the problem.... maybe just a batch of bad Apple TV2s?

I have done as John Stevens8 has suggested and it seems to have worked. My Apple TV2 was dropping out every 20 minutes, so in watching Grey's Anatomy with my wife (about 42 minutes long) the connection would drop out twice every episode. Last night I switched off the sharing of anything from iPhoto, and we watched a whole episode un-interrupted.

I encourage everyone to try this! in your itunes menu, go to photo sharing options and disable it.

Thank you John Stevens8

Applecare replaced my first ATV2. The replacement works just as poorly as the first. I have not taken the time to follow up with Applecare since I got the replacement. I have already wasted way too many hours fiddling with a $99 gadget. I have also noticed the odd behavior of the LED and mine "Lost" the paired remote. Fixing that problem was tricky! LOL

I have a window vista laptop that streams fine, I have a bootable USB drive with OSX 10.5 installed. The ATV2 works well with that. My Mac Mini running OSX 10.6.7 does not want to cooperate. Sometimes it will stream for a half hour or so and other times it will not work at all. I really don't have to do anything to fix it other than wait. It will always correct itself eventually.

I have also had problems renting movies from the iTunes store. It seems that I do not have enough bandwidth for them. Funny that I have plenty of bandwidth for everything else. Oh well...

Anyway, since the ATV2 has so many problems, I have solved my frustration by purchasing 3 Roku XDS boxes for my home network. These things are great! : )

I've had issues with every single update to the ATV2, but this started a few weeks ago (I was late on this update). Apple... FIX THE FRICKIN' PROBLEMS WITH ITUNES STREAMING. I mean this is some serious BS. My ATV2 was great the day I brought it home, but after the very FIRST update, I've had issues with streaming from iTunes. First, it didn't like m4v files that were larger than 2GB. Then it took 10 minutes for anything in my library to load. Then, sometimes it would play mp4's or m4v's, but other times, who the heII knew?? And with this last update, I can't even get through a dam(n) television show without having to restart iTunes. Nor can I watch ANY mp4 (m4v's are fine... when the ATV2 recognizes iTunes).

Apple, either fix it or let us have the option to uninstall updates. This is some BS.

I got tired of the non-responsiveness of Apple to this problem, and the fact that I couldn't use ATV2 without it dropping out.

I took the advice of a prevous poster and went and bought a WD TV live box:

WOW ... the features of this WD box puts the ATV2 to shame, and it WORKS!

So long, Apple!

I have found something that seems to have worked for me! I am not losing my connection to the homesharing computers anymore since disabling the sleep mode and screen saver. I set both of them to "never" and haven't had it disconnect in two days. The unit has lost network connectivity for a moment a few times, but it comes back online with my homeshared computers still listed.....

I'm not sure if it is problem never allowing the apple tv2 to go into sleep mode, but so far it has worked for me.

Hopefully it keeps working, because this little box is frustrating me! It is very cool, just wish it worked like it is supposed to. I'm hoping apple comes up with a better fix soon!

I like the wdtv I still habe my apple tv2, there's some features I like on the wdtv better and some on my apple tv, like when you put it aleep etc, it saves where you left off, where on the wdtv it doesn't and the layout its easier. I like that I have more formats with the wd though, I will use apple tv for some things and for netflix, don't care for the wd's set up, that I couldn't connet to netflix for some reason.
