iOS 4.3 causing battery drain

Hey guys

iOS 4.3 is causing poor battery performance. Went to bed at 5am this morning and 6 hours later battery has dropped from 100 to 93%. No apps or we pages are running and it had a reboot since I restored the phone rather than just updated.

Before battery would drain at 1% every 5mins when in wifi. Now it's more like every 2 mins with a bigger drain when on standby and not doing anything.

Anyone else noticed it? Have I done something wrong?

I have posted this over on another forum and it has received quite a few responses from people having the same problem...

Hi Modular! Thanks for posting the troubleshooting tips. I've gone down the list, fully charged my phone and then set it down at 100% charge while I slept. There were no apps running in the background. Within the 7 hours that I slept, the battery decreased from 100% to 64%. Prior to the iOS 4.3 update, battery depletion during that 7 hour time was typically 100% to 96%. To me, that demonstrates a definite problem. I appreciate your input and help with this issue though.

I'm making an appointment with a local Apple store today. I'm assuming we'll do the typical wipe-reset and see how it goes, or maybe replacing the phone. Either way, registering an in store appointment forces Apple to have a log of the issue, and the more it appears, hopefully it will be addressed.

I love all the "here we go again" threads. Guess what folks? You shouldn't have to wipe your darn phone every time there is an update. It's ridiculous. This is why I buy Apple products over MS products.

I for one, have never HAD this issue before, but this time, it's bad. As in 20% battery drain in 2 hours while doing nothing. It's unacceptable, and no fan boy needs to tell me, or anyone, wipe\reset and restore your phone. Do you think the average iPhone owner out there even knows about this? People like my own parents, older folks etc.?

Get a grip. There is a problem. Wiping my phone, and losing things like save game data, or anything else not easily restored, should not be the resolution, period.

Hi,

I follow your problem since this morning because i was in the same case of you. After a reset of my phone the battery drain was inchanged.

But, this afternoon, i have looked that the gps was active. In preferences > Localisation > i found some programs that used gps. Since i stopped them, my battery not changed : only 1% since 4 hours.

Bye,

It's an operating system update to a sophisticated and complex computer; there is always some risk, and a wipe and restore isn't that uncommon, whether it's a phone or a desktop.

It's very annoying, but it's a fact of life, unfortunately
