XCode 4 installation is stuck

XCode 4 installation is stuck

I tried to install XCode several times but it gets stuck every time. By the way I bought XCode in Mac Appstore.
What's the problem?

I don't know if this solves anyone else's problem, but maybe it helps: The installer just errored on me without explanation, but /var/log/install.log mentioned that there wasn't enough free space on my volume (approx 9,5G free). Deleted about 2gigs, and it seems to be installing fine now.

I found the answer on another thread and it worked for me. I kept copying the Xcode and iOS SDK.mpkg to the applications folder. When I ran it directly from the opened .dmg file it installed sucessfully. Good Luck!

You have copied the package to a "Packages" folder in /Applications.

And how can solve it?

Don't do that.

Run the installer from the DMG file where it lives.

I successfully installed it this way.

So go to Applications-folder. Find "Install Xcode".

Right-click and choose "Show Content" (or something, swedish language activated).

Go to Contents > Resources and doubleclick Xcode and iOS SDK.mpkg.

Then you're good to go with the installation.

I'll leave the "install xcode" file be in Applications folder.

I posted this already on another thread...
When the installer is stuck at 98% force quit "Install Xcode" restart your computer and look under HD>Develeoper>Applications>Xcode.app (Xcode is not installes under User>Applications)...or do a search with spotlight for xcode.

Re. XCode stuck waiting for iTunes to quit, even though iTunes has quit - it's the iTunesHelper. Fire up the Activity Manager, view all processes, find iTunesHelper and kill it - this will free up the install and it will continue on.

End up working when I cleaned up space, it only when through when I had more than 14 GB available...

My solution:

sudo mkdir /private/tmp

It seemed that I didn't have this folder, so Xcode couldn't put it's files in it.

I, too, was having a problem installing the Xcode 4 after I had successfully downloaded the application from the AppStore. To have successfully completed the installation, I had to logout as "System Administrator" and login as another admin that owns the AppStore_login_id and re-install Xcode from Launchpad. It worked for me, I hope it would work for you.

Note: I downloaded Xcode from the AppStore as "System Administrator" and failed to install Xcode as "System Administrator". Maybe someone can explain the misconnects between the AppStore and the install process.

I saw somewhere that having iTunes running causes the Xcode install from the App Store to pause.

Quit iTunes
Quit App Store
Log out
Log back in
Start App Store
Go to Updates
Click Update All

Should finished the Xcode install in about 5 seconds.

to anyone having issues - please use TijmenBr's advice....this thing must be a monster of an install

i had same install problem as everyone else, came on here and saw i had 3 gb available on my disk

emptied my bin and all seems to be going smoothly again - fingers x'd
