iOS 4.3 Running Sluggish?

Does anyone else have this issue? It reminds me on how my old 3G preformed when I upgraded to iOS4.

Basically scrolling is jittery and not smooth, everything is slow.

I reset holding the home and power button combo but never did any good.

No more sluggish than iOS4 ever was originally, its funny because the menus never even changed but got pretty jittery, whereas iOS3 was really smooth, guess they added loads of unnecessary bloat to the software.

But yes, battery life is dodgy, brand new restored has usage creeping up in standby, will lead some people to think they have great battery life, but it's not the cast, others are seeing really rapid drains too.

Wish Apple would keep signing firmware for a few extra days after a new release 😟

Sluggish? That's an understatement!

Many apps seem to run normally, but after this upgrade the native iOS apps have huge pauses in them.

Scrolling thought Contacts.....huge pauses of many seconds. Swipe the screen....nothing for five seconds and then it scrolls, etc.

Scrolling through the Settings menu.....same situation as with Contacts. I swipe to scroll down in the Settings menu, there's a huge pause, and then eventually it scrolls.

Email inbox. Same story. Swipe, pause, eventually it scrolls.

This has made my iPhone 3gs virtually unusable.

To be clear, I was running 4.2 yesterday and everything was running perfect...updated to 4.3 today and this is what I got. Horrible performance...

I need to get rid of this 4.3 update. Is there an Apple-sanctioned way to do it through iTunes?

John

Oh and for the record, restore from back up via iTunes is a pure waste of time, as is doing a reset of the phone. There are some serious bugs with the iOS 4.3 update. This update is starting to make me dislike my iPhone for the 1st ever (I bought my iPhone just over 1 year ago). So much so, if Apple don't do something about this soon I'll switch to Android and stick 2 fingers up at Apple.

Same here...

With Android at least if I have an issue people are working on little tweaks and hacks, maybe jailbreaking will help, I dunno...

I have a 3GS so maybe my next phone won't be an iPhone now

It's interesting that I have seen comments like yours for every update that has ever come out. All the way back to 2.0. So either iPhone versions have been getting progressively worse, or you have a problem with your phone that most other people don't, because most of the 100 million iPhone owners keep updating and don't come here to say that it's worse than the last version. Yes, you will find others with complaints, because people who have no complaints rarely post in the forum. Especially because they get attacked as "fanboys" (regardless of their sex).

I'm not saying your complaints are not real, but I am saying they can be resolved with a little effort and searching.

Hi Lawrence,

I tried the reset threads that I found, but other solutions that I've seen seem to be a wing and a prayer (including the restore from iTunes threads, which all seem to end worse than they started). Meaning, I haven't really seen a thread that said "My horrible performance problems have been solved by doing xyz on the 3GS".

What are you referring to when you say, "...you can fix 4.3 with a little effort searching the forum"?. Do you have any specific threads that you can point me to that resolve the issues I mentioned with the huge pauses in the Email, Contact, and Settings iOS apps?

Any help to specific ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

Thanks Lawrence for taking an interest in the issue reported here. Whether this kind of comment is made for 'every update' is, however, not really relevant. The original poster noticed his devise was sluggish - I confirmed (as have others) that it is an issue that is not limited to the 3GS (I have an iPhone 4).
Responding to this thread, for my part, was nothing less than a public duty - my observations tallied with those made by others and were intended to add weight.
I would also comment (and agree with others) that the resolution is not at all obvious despite considerable searching - if you have an answer please post a link for all our benefit - that is what these threads are for.

I doubt I am alone in thinking it is a bit disappointing at the least and almost criminal at worst that 2 new Apple devices (iPhone & Apple TV) have been adversely affected by this recent software update.

Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for taking time in supporting Apple. We all are Apple fanboys, who kept quiet on minor problems, that could be resolved by ourselves and did not post in the forum. And I'm a iPhone owner from 1st Gen. And have been seeing iOS from 1.0. I haven't noticed this much sluggishness in my phone after the 4.3 update. And also, I'm here after throughly searching all the forums for solution. I would appreciate you pointing out a thread that solves this problem. And If only some of the iPhones are slow, let Apple find out the problem and replace our phones, so that we run iOS 4.3 better (like others) on our 3Gs.

Lawrence, you may also have many people who may go directly to Apple to complain in store or many who just don't bother. Yeah we may be unfortunate ones here but we are voicing our opinions to so hopefully Apple will take note. Now you mentioned "searching" for a solution. I'm 1 week out of warranty, I have a previously perfect 3GS now behaving jittery and full of lag. I have carried out a reset several times. I have performed a back up from restore. I cannot downgrade my iOS Apple authorised. What do you suggest I can do? Cos I'm at a lost here.....
