403 Forbidden in Safari, but working in Firefox

Hello there,

I'm trying to access in Safari a password protected site that I usually access in Firefox. It gives me the following error:

403 Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /cgi/index.cgi on this server.
Apache/1.3.37 Server at xxxx.xxxxxx.com Port 80

I try removing all the cookies but nothing happens. When I access in Firefox, first it drops down a window for user and pass, then I access. In Safari, it still goes straight to this page, instead of asking me for the password.

any help? Thanks.

Hi,

Go to Safari / Preferences - Security.

Make sure Java is enabled.

If you haven't updated to Safari 5.0.4 you can do that from your Apple menu / Software Update or from the standalone installer here.

That may help also. And check System Preferences / Network. Click the Advanced tab then click the Proxies tab. If you have any boxes checked on the left side of that window, deselect then click OK. Relaunch Safari and try the site again.

If it's not proxies, try accessing the site here. http://coverproxy.com/index.php
