iOS 4.3 bug - Deleted All Text Messages

I updated my iPhone 4 last night to latest operating system (iOS 4.3). I just tried to share a contact via text message through contacts. Screen went blank for 2 seconds, with white apple icon and all my text messages got deleted 😟

Huh?

Well, put yourself in the shoes of the few that you can easily dismiss because your not have their issues, the few who spent $700 for a phone that suddenly stopped working properly after an update. And no matter what tip they did, they can't get their phone to work as it was before the update. Now think some more, your warranty JUST ran out before you updated. Now Apple is telling you, you need to give them $300 more for a replacement phone. Now say you dished out another $300 for a replacement phone, only to have the new phone work (or not work) just like your other phone. Then you do all the tips all over again, with no luck. All this time your dealing with reboots, and your battery used up before half the day is through, and you haven't even been using your phone all day. You use your phone for work, your business. Clients can't get a hold of you, they get cut off while in a conversation, and you lose a couple here and there. What would you be saying then? Will you just tell yourself, you'll just have to deal with it? Hmmmm.

It's easy to be on the side where the grass is greener, and tell those on the other side of the fence to buck up, it'll get fixed eventually. Instead of just looking over and telling them you have what they don't, why not help them get it back.

Sorry, but I just think you absolutely don't know what you are talking about. You still haven't told me the problems I'm having with my iPhone 4 since upgrading to 4.2.1. What's the holdup?

You also speak as if Apple is secretly sitting on some bugs that began in 4.1 the everybody is experiencing. It is just some easily found coding error that Apple is refusing to fix and letting everyone who has an iPhone suffer.

Hogwash.

You just like to complain.

What Eric shaw says is true, as soon as someone has a problem with their phone, they are told "I dont have that problem" or they have done something wrong, it can never be the fault of Apple, There have been loads of issues where people have tried to update the firmware, only to be left with errors and the phone in a constant restore cycle only to be told by a certain number of Apple Fanboys "nothing wrong with it, my phone is fine!" this is supposed to be a forum to help others with their problems!! Then there are the people who have managed to update find bugs and cant downgrade, this is all caused by Apple trying to fight againt Jailbreaking, thats the only reason they dont allow downgrades, Take all the stupid restrictions off the phone and people wouldnt want or need to jailbreak. Apple need to lengthen the chain they keep the iphone on, or many people wont choose Apple with their next upgrade.

Apple does not disallow downgrades. A more accurate way of putting it is, Apple does not help you downgrade. You can downgrade the firmware on an iPhone.

I can downgrade my Mac OS from 10.6.6 to 10.4.2 if I want to, but Apple won't help me do it. Many people downgrade Windows 7 to Windows xp, and they get no help from Microsoft.

Apple need to lengthen the chain they keep the iphone on, or many people wont choose Apple with their next upgrade.

I would like to see the chain a little longer also, and it probably will get longer in the future. But as the chain gets longer, more people will trip over it, and get it wrapped around a tree.

You can downgrade the Mac OS X, as long as you still have your older install discs. Macs are easy. Apple provides you the means to downgrade the Mac OS. But not so with the iPhone. Once you update, you can't go back, especially the modem firmware. Apple won't do it for you, and they do suggest not to (as some tech guys say with a wink. lol). But that doesn't mean you can't downgrade the iOS, you just have to do the thing your not allowed to mention here. Using third party software, not provided or endorsed by Apple. Modem firmware is a different story though, that takes a lot more know how and elbow grease, almost to the point that's it's not even worth attempting. And some claim that the modem firmware plays a part in some issues. ie. phone rebooting on it's own.

"Lengthening the chain" would be a good direction for Apple. But I think they should take the "more flexible" approach instead.

Yes indeed. I don't know of any iOS downgrading techniques that downgrade the modem baseband. The resulting mismatch between the baseband and iOS versions can lead (not always) to more problems than those that motivated the downgrade in the first place.
