that just happened to me. i am trying to restoring it so im hoping that works.
It happened to me on Sat 8th. Also trying a restore but will apparently lose all apps as I was meant to transfer these over...
this has ahppened to me, how are you restoring? when i plug mine in its only showing me one restore option and thats the one i cancelled first thing today when i plugged in. how do we restore to previous dates?
Same thing happened to me. Can't fix it. Because it's new software I had no choice but to download it, thus creating a new backup (with no messages) and deleting the last one. Pretty annoying to lose 2 years of texts.
Same thing happened to me. Endlessly frustrated. This appears to have been a common problem for 7 months - why hasn't Apple reacted?!
I had this problem happen to me on yesterday and I did a little research online as well as through a friend and I was able to retrieve all of the text messages I received prior to my last update which was September 17. Anything after that day is still gone. I much rather lose a month's worth of text than 2 years. Prior to restoring your data you may want to upload any pics/videos you have taken prior to your last update because they will be deleted along with any notes or clock settings. Those are the only things I've noticed that had been removed. Ipod files and apps were still there. I hope this helps! Let me know.
STEP 1:
Make sure iTunes DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY SYNC with your iphone when it is connected. (Go to Edit, Preferences, Devices, and check not to auto sync)
STEP 2:
Connect your iPhone to iTunes and when it appears on the left of iTunes, this is WHERE you have to RIGHT CLICK on your phone icone and select restore.
STEP 3:
Restore your iPhone by selecting the last restore date available...it may prompt you to choose the lasted date.
STEP 4:
The restore may take a while depending on how much data you had on your phone. My restore took about 45 minutes.
Ha, incredible this is still happending for so long. I upgraded to iOS 5 and lost all the texts between July the 20th and October 12th. Tried everything that I could and available under the sun like reading the back up files using TextPad and the Decipher text software and didn't find any messages from this period :-( sigh. Gone, they are gone but don't know why. There's another thread here (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3375277?answerId=16456511022#16456511022) discussing this never ending issue but now available for you in iOS5.
Piece of junk iphone 4s just froze and deleted 4 years of texts. got home and connected to itunes and it doesn't recognize my iphone. so i am screwed. What's the point of spending $800 on a phone if it can't even keep your text messages. It's like a ****** 1995 pager. how did we end up here?
At what point in the restore function does it ask you what restore date you want to do it to? When I tried this, It asked me if I wanted to back up first and I just cancelled out cause I think backing up might erase what is on my previous sync
do anyone know how to recover the lost text messages? the same thing happened to me today. i was sending a photo through text message and screen went blank, etc...then all my text messages were deleted! 😟
skrobnsnn,drika_j mentions how to restore and get your text messages back.
My problem is that its now 16th Jan and my last back was on 11th Nov. I can't see a way to just restore the text meaages without restoreing the contacts and everything else. 😢😟
