iOS 4.3 bug - Deleted All Text Messages

Had the same problem everyone else is describing. Tried to send an MMS- apple screen, lock screen, text history gone.
Like others mentioned- I could still see evidence of the history through the search function (at first).
I contacted apple support several times over the phone. Twice I was told I would have to buy service packages. On the third attempt (when I got a male operator), I got assistance. I was told to update the software to 4.3.5. I mentioned these posts that suggested when the phone would sync that any chance at retrieving my messages would be deleted. The operator suggested this was not the case and that if uploading the new software didn't bring the messages back that there would be no way to retrieve them.
I did the software upgrade. Still no message history, and worse yet, there was no indication of them in the search operation anymore.
Again, I called the apple service. Again, the woman I got first said I would have to buy support packages. I called back later, and got a male operator. He guided me through a few things before eventually his voice became quite hopeless and he indicated there was absolutely no way to retrieve the messages because of the application error that had taken place. To his credit (perhaps the only minutely good news in all of this), is that he was helpful in providing some tips on preventing this from happening again (not much of a trade off for over a year of messages lost).
So overall, I'm quite dissatisfied with the lack of a solution to a problem that clearly numerous users have now had. Secondarily, not sure why most attempts at getting an answer led to operators' attempts to upsell. I guess I can thank the fact that I'm a female and that the male operators were helpful without trying to make me pay more.
Using phone, went to check an incoming text, apple logo..
Came back, no text messages.
This happened days after my last backup and days after the 4.3.5 update!
Messages appear in the spotlight however.
Cannot believe Apple is covering this up so well!
Happened to me today after attempting to MMS a friend. I really wish Apple could address this in some way other than telling you to spend more money and hope it fixes the problem. I'm mainly concerned with this becoming a recurring problem.
I am really upset about this. Upgraded to 4.3.5 last week. Just tried to send an MMS and it deleted ALL of my text messages, which included information for a court hearing. Yes, I have my phone backed up and I hope that my texts will be in the back up! Also, the update changed the format of video that I send. What's with that?
I can't believe this has been going on for months with no word or fix from Apple. It just happened to me and I am ******. It's time to get the tech press involved.
Its never happend to me, but i can see how annoying it would be, Apple seem only to be trying to stop the phones being jailbroken and not fixing real issues. 4.3.4 and 4.3.5 were only releasesd to close a hole the jailbreakers were using.
Same thing happened to me. Just updated yesterday and went to send a pic message...the "thinking" symbol showed up and then went to my home screen...now every text I sent is gone.
Same thing happened to me. Except I updated, and then it happened about a week later. Apple better get on this quick!
same thing happened to me...sent a picture message, got the silver apple/black bkgd screen...then all my texts were missing.
however, when i search for them in spotlight, they show up...which is bizarre. i'm interested to know if any of you notice that as well? i can't access them - clicking on them sends me right to the (short) list of text messages i now have - but something is still in there.
four years of texts, gone! it's upsetting.
OK So maybe i'm just used to using Apps but ......
Where are your backups stored how do I get to them on my system/itunes?
What is spotlight?
I just want ALL of my messages / contacts and notes back
Thanks
This happened to me the other day, and I found another forum talking about the same thing and that the only hope was restoring. I had only just synced and back up like an hour earlier so I figured I should try restoring while I didn't have much to lose by jumping back a bit but it didn't work!
I can't see my old txt msgs in spotlight, and I tried before I restored and I couldn't then either, and now even after the restore the old txts haven't come back.
What's worse is it synced automatically before i clicked restore, and backed up, so if the txt msgs were all completely deleted from the first crash, then syncing it might have deleted them all from the back up too!
I have v4.3.5.
I think its a bug. =(
The same just happened in here.... After an MMS error the screen got black, apple logo, SMS/MMS gone!!!
Are there any? Does any company have higher rated customer service than Apple? Every stat I read says Apple is #1.
Does anyone know how to explore the SMS directory and look for specific files? I`m sure this bug happens because the MMS that we were creating before the iphone crashed is corrupted. So if we could find it and delete it everything would be ok. Do you guys know how to do this?
this is great. all my messages are gone and no one has a response to this "bug"
