ios 4.3 - 3GS freezes after entering PIN-Code

Hello

I'm using an 3GS, before running with 4.2.1. It's a "free" iPhone.

I just upgraded to 4.3. The upgrade process run without any problems. The iPhone started normally, but after entering the pin-code, it freezes and reboots several times. After 15 min. of reboots, it's just working fine und without any problems. But even, if you switch it off and start it again, the same procedure begins. I restored it several times, but nothing helped.

iTunes 10.2.1
MacOS 10.6.6

What can I do?

Regards & Thanks

As I changed to the vodafone ultracard (2 SIMs) a while ago, I have an older and a newer SIM. The "older" SIM was in the iPhone.

I now changed the SIMs: just switching the SIM-cards between the 2 phones. For me it workes fine.
It seems to have something to do with the "age" of the SIM-card. Maybe it helps someone else using the same configuration. Did anyone speak with Vodafone?

Same here. Problems with a Vodafone Germany SIM in a iPhone 3GS.

I think it is a Vodafone issue. Before IOS 4.3 I noticed that sometimes, IOS would not log on to their network completely. The iPhone would only show 1 bar of signal strength and no provider name. But the iPhone would continue to work.

After IOS 4.3, when this happens, IOS 4.3 hangs and does NOT continue to work.

If your device hangs on the apple logo, take out the SIM and reset (holding home and power on). Once the device has booted, put the SIM back in. If you are lucky, your device logs on.

Make sure you do this in a location where the signal of Vodafone is strong. Weaker signals seem to worsen the problem here.

Here is a possible reproduction of the problem:

If your Phone is working and you are logged on to Vodafone, switch it on and go to the settings where flight mode can be entered, but do not enter flight mode yet.

Leave it on the table for a while and wait until the iPhone 3GS switches off by itself, because of power saving.

Wait a couple of seconds.

Switch it back on.

Enter flight mode.

Wait a couple of seconds.

End flight mode.

Your iPhone is now hanging.

Perhaps it is a problem with the power saving feature of the phone?

To get it back to working again: Remove the SIM. Reset. Put back the SIM when the phone has booted. Do this in a location with a strong Vodafone signal.

Today even the trick with placing the SIM into another phone and then quickly back to the iPhone did not work 3 times in a row.

The 4th time, I booted the iPhone 3GS without SIM, logged in and placed it in the dock, connected to iTunes. Then I placed the SIM and immediately got a Vodafone connection.

Might be coincidence, but will try that method more often now.

Docking the phone while booting or connecting to the VF network doesn't fix the issue either. Neither does turning off 3G or network alltogether.

It really seems to be some kind of race condition and it appears to be pure luck when you are logged in correctly.

Once you are logged in, all is OK. So the best thing might be to not switch off your phone at night.
