I can't buy anything from the App Store. I can login OK, but when I try to buy anything, it says 'You must enter your Apple ID and password, click Billing Info, and verify your payment information in order to make purchases" but when I enter my ID and password again and click on 'Billing info' nothing happens. I've tried clearing the cache. I don't understand it as I have previously bought stuff no problem. Any ideas?
I have exactly the same problem - click on 'billing info and the drop-down just disappears and nothing else happens.
I really
do want to buy the app. So what now?
I experienced the same symptoms and eventually figured out it was because the credit card cvv code was missing from my account information. Apparently the part of the App Store software that is supposed to take you from "verify billing info" to your account doesn't work, so you have to do it yourself.
From the Mac App Store home page, go into "accounts", click "Edit >" next to Payment Information, and enter/correct any information that is missing or wrong.
Simply launch iTunes and download a free app for the iPad or iPhone/iPod Touch. iTunes asked for my account details and then asked for Billing Info verification as usual - once you've done the verification in iTunes, then it works in the Mac App Store too.
Charles fixed my problem (thanks Charles!)....I am on a new MacBook Pro, and I had to actually go in and verify payment information (edit it and then click "done"). That fixed the issue.
I had to do this even though I had a credit showing that more than covered the app fee. Unfortunately, I even went to the trouble of changing my App Store password, so now I have to remember that on all my devices ; )
I just purchased a new mac and was having the same issue trying to download facetime from the Mac App store.
This is because every time you access your AppleID from a new Apple device, a verification of your account is needed with Apple. This is most commonly done by confirming the 3 digit CCV number found on the back of your credit card - the one used as your form of payment in your AppleID account.
Apparently the link to take you from 'Billing Info' to your account doesn't work, so no dramas.. You just have to do it manually.
ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS...
1. In the mac app store, click 'Store' up top on your menu bar and then click 'View My Account'
2. Enter your AppleID and password when the window pops up and click 'View Account'
3. Now on the right, click 'Edit >' in line with 'Payment Information'
4. Re-enter the three digit CCV from the credit card listed in your account and click 'Done' down the bottom.
5. Now when you go back and try to buy the app again.. Problem should be solved!!
I found another link in to the app I wanted by googling its name, and didn't have any problems buying it that way; it did make me enter my credit card security code in two different part of the process, which was a bit odd, but I now seem to be able to buy when I fire up the app store too, so problem fixed - not sure exactly what fixed it, but seems it was something to do with csv code after all. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
Somehow I cannot buy anything either. So I've received my first Mac two days ago and ofcourse logged into my iTunes account on it. Right now, I cannot buy anything - not in the iTunes store on my old pc, neither on my iPhone or MacBook. Yesterday it told me that creditcard info cannot be updated at the moment. Today it tells me the info I'm entering is not correct. But I bought the MacBook with the exact same credit card, it's valid for sure.... Every time I check my payment info, the security code box is empty. But when I enter it, -correctly-, it tells me the info is invalid and won't save.
Any ideas??
So far, I tried disabling as many accounts on other devices as possible, logging out everywhere except in the iTunes store on my MacBook to edit the info. Logout, login... Re-entering the info. I'm kinda frustrated, as I would like to try some apps... And update my iPhones apps 😟
