iOS 4.3 Locked my factory unlocked iPhone 4!!

A warning out there to owners of factory unlocked iPhone 4's!! After updating to iOS 4.3 this morning, I proceeded to purchase a SIM card from another carrier and after inserting it into the phone, it was NOT recognized!! I have used SIM cards from the new carrier in the past and it seems like my handset is now locked!!

Be cautious!! If you plan on keeping your phone unlocked I would avoid installing the iOS 4.3 update until they fix this!!

iPhone 4,MBP 15", Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Hi, i bought an iphone 4 recently but i would like to use it with another carrier can i take it back to the apple resale store an tell them to factory unlock it for me?? 😕

No. The carrier authorizes unlocking of the device if they support unlocking the device.

Apple will only unlock the device if authorized by the carrier.

The only exception is in countries where the iPhone is legally required to be unlocked.

Thanks..

My phone is officially carrier unlocked, but my problem is I am using it in a different country now, so I am concerned that if anything goes wrong then I may not go back to that country to fix it..

Are you really sure on carrier unlock? I mean is it really not affected by upgrading ios.. I am reconforming because I dont want my £515 to go waste and it not to offend you...

Thanks again...

Don't do it.
Even of people here say it,
I have the exact same problem, baught the factory unlocked phone in Sweden.
I upgraded and connected here in Brazil.
And it threw me out from Itunes and says no valid sim call your carrier, no chance of going back now to Sweden.
And the receipt isn't with me its at the accounter.

So i just baught a Gevey chip and Apple is loosing more money instead of just letting people sync their phones.
Really ********.

Where did you buy you iPhone in Sweden, since Apple does NOT sell unlocked iPhones in Sweden?

Yours is an unofficial unlock and that is why it relocked itself when you upgraded. Again, if you have purchased an officially unlocked iPhone from an authorized source, say in Singapore, or you have followed an official unlock procedure through your carrier updating your iPhone will not relock it to the original carrier.

Apple isn't losing any money in this situation. If your iPhone is locked to 3 you can call them in Sweden and see if you can go through the unlock procedure now. If not, well you've done what you have to and hope that SIM works with iOS 5 and Brazil doesn't use 112 as an emergency number.

According to the online Apple Store web page for Sweden, they do, but only when purchased directly from the online Apple Store. If jaycop purchased his/her iPhone anywhere else, then it was probably not factory unlocked but rather was jailbroken which would explain why it locked when the OS was updated.

Dave, that may be a recent change at one time they sold no unlocked phones there and only 3 would do an unlock after a specified period.

One other possibility, if he purchased it soon after the Apple Store began selling them he may have one that was incorrectly marked in the database, as some from Canada have been, and a call to the Apple Store would resolve the situation.
