Significant light leakage, few light botches on sides/corners - defective?

Actually I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but thought I'd share my experience here. Very disappointing, but certainly completely usable until I can exchange.

Hoping it's one of those strange manufacturing things where it "needs to settle," but I doubt it.

Note that I have an iPad 1 also, and it definitely doesn't have this problem.

How can a unit like this pass QC?
I am outright disgusted. Apple, is this your definition of a "post pc blockbuster" ?
Cheap garbage with no quality control?
I have to say though that this is definitely the worst one I've seen since this issue began a few weeks ago.
The worst part is they made people wait in lines all day long to bring home pieces of **** like the one pictured there...What if someone took off from work just to wait in line all day and bring home that garbage? This is unbelievable.

I know it sounds/looks very bad, but when I use it it all looks black. Maybe i will make a video to show.
I believe it looks more because the shutter of the camara stays open, so it takes all the refreshrates of the light.
I can almost take daylight picture with this camara in the evening.
The only light you can see is the at the right, just below the bkue light at the right.
I will later on make movie/9clip and podt it here.
And if then everybody tells me to return it, i will do it tomorrow
Thx already

I am in no way taking up Apple's side here folks, but if you keep the shutter open with low- or even high ISO, you do not get a realistic picture with a camera. While I have no doubt your light leaks, I do not think it is as bad as those pictures. It is my guess you are keeping the shutter open from anywhere from 1 to 5 seconds and on a high ISO. With a picture you can get patterns, but you cannot judge brightness the way you want it do in this case.

Why do you need us to tell you to return it. It is you that needs to make that call. I would return it if it is faulty and not as you had hoped.

I understand your point perfectly. I, as user will have the last word on it. But maybe I am telling you guys something that is normal. And nothing more, nothing less. Maybe what I have is NORMAL. Or maybe not.

I will post later my video

When I saw the picture I was very surprised, cause it wasn´t what I saw my my own eyes in the dark. But after a couple of tries I decided to post it. I personally believe it gives a wrong idea of the Ipad. Still I will post a video and would love to hear the opinion of all the people.

thx eeek5127 for you opinion

I talked to Apple Care today here in Sweden and the one I spoke to said that the leekage problem sounded like an obvious hardware fault.

He also said that the iPad 2 that they had in their office had the same issue at first but it "fixed it self" after a while of usage.

He also said that if he was in my position he would've wanted it fixed/replaced to.

And there wasn't any problem if I wanted to return it in six months if I wanted to, since they now had a case number registered for it.

So for you guys who still want to keep your tablet until this issue is resolved, it seems like you can just call Apple Care and tell them that you have this issue.

And then maybe return it in like a month or two.

Here are 3 videos of the bacllight coming out:
Some as before:
1) Brightness at 0% and no auto brightness
http://img11.imageshack.us/i/qh8.mp4/
2)Brightness at 50% and no auto brightness
http://img855.imageshack.us/i/47u.mp4/
3)Brightness at 100% and no auto brightness
http://img52.imageshack.us/i/9o8y.mp4/

It took then with my Fuji camera and then converted them to DIVX. as the three files were 34MB together. So quality is not very well. You can see in 50% already some light coming out.

Does this means it is faulty? I mean wil it break the Ipad later more? Or is it just some light that is coming out of the back which should be sealed a 100%?
What I don´t understand is that Apple keeps selling theses, knowing the defects. And it seems that the ipad1 didn´t had this problem, or did it had this problem also?

Question: If YOU had this like I have. would you change it?

Thanks already for answering.

My white 32GB wifi ipad has the leakage issue right out of the box - not really noticeable until you are in a darker room, but then it's pretty distracting.

I called Apple and they are sending me a new one (I have Apple Care so I don't have to send my old one back first). He said I should have it in 2-3 days and that the replacement units are more thoroughly tested for the "screen clamping" issue.

If you don't have Apple Care, the only options are to send yours back for "repair" and wait it out (~3 weeks the guy said) or go to an Apple Store and hope your replacement is better than the first.

All in all I'd say getting a new one in the mail is your best bet, because the customer service rep said that there are replacements units set aside for this specific issue.

I paid a lot for this item and I expect it to be perfect. Apple is known for its good customer service and I had no problem getting a replacement sent, so it's obvious they know about the issue. If your ipad looks bad and you're unsatisfied, don't stress, you can get a new one. You might have wait a bit but from my experience and what everyone is saying they will replace/repair this problem no questions asked.

I can understand people's frustration regarding this matter, but is it effecting your enjoyment? I have had light bleeding on my first iPad and I'm now on my second iPad 2 but this still has issues with light bleeding.

The thing is at this time you have two choices, either return it and get your money back or ride it out until they get better units in stock which will probably be at the end of the year after they have released in other countries. I personally I'm going to keep mine because apart from the light bleed the iPad works perfectly!!

I have had 3 iPad 2's. All of which had this issue. And I just sent the 3rd in for "repair" and the status currently says "Product replacement pending (29-Mar-2011)"

But here are the photo albums of all 3 I have had so far:
