Significant light leakage, few light botches on sides/corners - defective?

Actually I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but thought I'd share my experience here. Very disappointing, but certainly completely usable until I can exchange.

Hoping it's one of those strange manufacturing things where it "needs to settle," but I doubt it.

Note that I have an iPad 1 also, and it definitely doesn't have this problem.

He said he could not make that promise. He was very considerate, and honest -- and that statement alone from him should say quite a lot (to all of us) -- that he could not promise me that I would be sent a defect-free unit...It's like he can't even stand behind his own company's product....

The thing is, if this is just a production issue for them, they can't promise that a new unit would be "defect free" because they're not going to go through a pallet of iPad 2s to look for one in your configuration that doesn't have any issues, and even then they can't promise it will be perfect.

Electronics do fail, so say if a component failed somewhere between the factory and it getting into your hands, you'd be upset because the agent had promised it would be perfect.

All Apple can do is replace it and hope that the replacement is better for you than the original.

Just been back to the apple store with my 2nd replacement iPad - which was actually worse than the first. The genius acknowledged the problem and said he could order one in as they had none in stock but it would take 3 or 4 weeks and even then he said it could have the problem. I decided to just call it a day and get my money back.

This was done outside of the 14 day return period so by doing this with no hassle they are aware of the problem and I think are just doing a damage limitation know.

My advise would be to return it, get your money back and forget about it - I know its annoying but it really is not worth the hassle.

I might decide to buy one again when, or if people start posting success stories but until then I am gonna keep hold of my cash.

Hi, I'm from Paris and french speaking (sorry for my bad english guys!)

I also have the problem and every iPad 2 customers that I know in France have the issue...

Asking a new unit is not the solution for now I think, because LG is the main LCD supllier and they have the issue on their own product:

So I think that we have to wait until the end of june (at least) to see the new ipad 2 series with Samsung or CHIMEI LCDs...

But Apple should have better quality control for their price range!

Wow, this is bad. If this is happening not only to iPad 2's but also to other brands we have a major problem. The world is at stake! If you guys think about it, it's happening with ALL products, not just electronics but also vehicles and houses? The manufacturers are using cheap labor and taking shortcuts to save cost.... and yet INCREASE the selling price for the consumer. True true... the government is keep jacking up / creating more taxes so it's gonna get worse. Cars for example, the best built cars are from Honda and Toyota back in mid 80's to early 90's!!! Build quality and QC has gone down ever since, pretty much for all car makers (Lexus is less affected due to high level of standards in build quality). I bought a brand new house exactly one year ago and it's built like crap!!!

Same goes for the flat panel TV screens. I think the plasma and LCD screen made back in early 2000's were made like golden, unbreakable and made with high precision, AND they were not made in China.... Mine was made in JAPAN and it's still running like a tank. It's also made perfect, no faults of any kind.

Luckily, VERY luckily, I have very minor light leaks (2 spots) on my iPad 2 and are invisible in dimmed environment with black screen. The only way to see some of them is to jack up the brightness up and take it in to my bathroom with door closed (has no window). So I say, I got the golden one. But if I knew such build quality problem exists on these devices I wouldn't have bought the iPad 2... I would just keep using my professional grade plasma screen with my PC. It has no light bleed and the beauty with these plasma technology is that, unlike LCDs, the pixels do not go bad over time! It's 6 years old and has way better picture quality too...

It is very unlikely I will buy iPad 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 ...... unless I get the 1990's build quality back, which I doubt will ever happen. You can't go back in time unless you got a time machine. Back then the home stereo systems were built very well too. I had one, was expensive, but loved the build quality.

The biggest question is, who is to be blamed for all this?

You got it... it's the GOVERNMENT!!!!! you jack up taxes and raise environmental regulations and all that **** you are bound to go south. Blame the government!!! or you, the people who voted for wrong leaders. It's all you guys fault. You are now paying for it.

:-)

Have you taken your medication today sir? 😝

I'm not jumping to any conclusions just yet but you gotta admit that defective g2x looks a **** of a lot like the defective ipad2s...The problem seems to be the same thing though -- the screen is being pushed on too hard in ceartain points, like it's not aligned correctly in the housing \ bezel. Does Foxconn make LG's phones as well?

I would bet that they do. I honestly don't think this has anything at all to do with the screen itself but the manufacturing process...but ultimately like I said before what difference does it make...it's still not a resolution to the situation.

Well I finally got my iPad 2 today! This thing was so worth the wait! I guess I am one of the extremely lucky ones to get an iPad 2 without any of the leakage some of you are reporting. :-) This thing is flawless in every lighting situation I've had it in. I hope you all finally ending up getting a good one too! Hope everyone is having a great night, I sure am!

I received my iPad 2 on 4/18 from the online store as the nearest Apple Store is over 3 hours away. My screen seems to be yellow on one side and more blue on the other. It's almost exactly down the middle. It's especially noticeable on white screens and when the keyboard is up.

In portrait mode the yellow is on the left andvthe blue on the right.

Not sure if it's noticeable in the photo.

Is this the same issue as light leaking.
