Actually I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but thought I'd share my experience here. Very disappointing, but certainly completely usable until I can exchange.

Hoping it's one of those strange manufacturing things where it "needs to settle," but I doubt it.

Note that I have an iPad 1 also, and it definitely doesn't have this problem.

iPad 2, iOS 4

It's a bad unit. Take it back.

Same problem -- waited in line an hour at best buy and came home with this:

What a joke. I'm never buying apple products again. This is RIDICULOUS.

I can just see the song and dance I'm going to have to go through at best buy when I try to return this too -- yes, it's barely noticable except in dark rooms, and with black on the screen -- but this is NOT how a 700$ product should work. This is complete ********.

My looks much the same as yours. Well, I am disgusted more by my bad luck (seems like the electronics I buy are defective about 25% of the time), but I'm sure it will be easy to exchange once supply catches up and should be perfectly usable until then.

That's the problem though -- supply. Every place around here is sold out, there were hundreds of people in line at all locations that stocked this. Getting a replacement unit is going to take WEEKS. And to top it off, left work early just so I could stand in line and get a defective unit. This is unacceptable. As you can see from the pic there is significant light leakage on the left side and bottom of the screen. If anyone else out there has this problem -- just FYI, I got the white AT&T version, 16GB. I wonder if it's because of the white bezel?

Personally I would take it back and get a refund. That way you can wait to see if this is a major issue with lots of units or not. If not, then you can buy one in a few weeks. Otherwise, you will be stuck with a unit that will irritate you every time you look at it.

I have the 32 gb white wifi iPad 2 and I have the same problems with light leakage. I think I will hold onto this one though until the iPads are back in stock at the apple store.

Both of the ones I bought have it... one white and one black. not thrilled but its not a deal breaker for me, though I completely understand how you feel and wouldnt argue with taking it back.

I have the same problem with light leakage on my black iPad 2 Verizon version. There is a significant amount leaking from the bottom of my screen. Spend 729 + tax and you get this. I'm so mad I could punch myself in the face ... twice! Oh well, looks like some of us drew the short straw. I guess the iPad 2 isn't as flawless as some in the media have reported.

Same with mine light leakage on bottom! not that noticeable only in dark rooms but I want a replacement! $699 unit should not have any flaws!
  • jrg1313 Level 1 Level 1
Perhaps the "light leakage" is really just the yellow discoloration that showed up on the iPhone 4. According to macrumors ( ay-like-iphone-4/) the iPad 2 has the same discoloration, which should go away in a few days.

Yep same problem here, although not quite as bad as the one pictured above. I wonder if this will turn out to be a design flaw with all of them, seems unlikely that the person above who bought two would be unlucky enough to get two bad ones if it wasn't a widespread problem.

I hope you are right! I will wait a few days! (Apple wont have any in stock for awhile anyway)
  • FinalJenemba Level 1 Level 1
Man I hope the yellowing thing is true lol

Mine has the same light leakage on the top right and the bottom left. The bottom part actually get worse when pressed on. Oh well...
