iPad 2 Still Suffers from Yellow and White Light Leakage Issues (Spots)

The light leakage issue on the iPad has been around since last year. Every iPad 1 that I have ever owned and seen has had this issue to some extent. The bottom line is that I have owned a few iPads and ALL OF THEM HAD Yellow and White LIGHT LEAKAGE ISSUES. It might be less noticeable on some devices, but this issue has been around since the iPad 1. I wish that Apple would sometimes listen to its customers before releasing updated products. I have notified Apple about this issue multiple times last year. I waited 5 hours in line today hoping that this light leakage issue was resolved in this version of the product, and all I can say is that it is even worse than before.

Apple iPads last year also had an issue where the left side of the screen was slightly brighter than the right side.

Almost all LED and LCD screens have some white light leakage issues, but I have to say that the iPads exhibit an abnormal amount (plus its yellow in some areas of the screen). The flashlighting or light leakage can be seen when looking at dark backgrounds or black user interface elements under lower lighting conditions.

I just purchased the white 64 wi-fi, and after playing with it last night, i noticed light leaking on the left side. It is more pronounced in the corners and only noticeable in the darker backgrounds obviously, especially under low light. I own the the first gen iPad and it doesn't have this problem, certainly not to the degree that the new one has. BTW, I noticed the issue last night and didn't read any leakage news until this afternoon today. I'm waiting to see if Apple is going to officially address the issue or not. It does seem to be quite widespread, and maybe more for the white iPads? Not sure.

"For those that believe that this is a glue related issue then I have to say that it is probably not related."

From what I've heard, I also believe the two issues are unrelated. I've never seen the yellowing, but my white iPad 2 definitely leaks light. I was very happy to get the white model, but this leaking is very annoying, especially when watching a widescreen movie. I didn't have this problem with my old iPad, so I may exchange this for the black iPad 2 if Apple doesn't announce a fix soon.

I have a black 64 gb Wi-fi iPad 2 and have the same issue along the bottom on each side of the home button. This really seems to be a common issue in about a third of the iPads according to some online surveys. It only shows up with a solid black background. No light leakage with other backgrounds. No discoloration on white backgrounds.

On the positive side, the iPad 2 is AMAZING!! User uploaded file

After dealing with this issue when the iPad 1 came out, I will probably just keep the yellow light leaking iPad 2. Exchanging a device is like gambling in a casino because based on my experiences from last year, most iPads have this issue. Why not just return the device you say? Well, I love Apple products and I really like iPads; therefore, I will let Apple take advantage of me this time.

I just received my new iPad2. I have just noticed a light leak in the lower right corner (if I have it on the smart cover as a stand so it is sitting upright) I see it in low light, it isn't too big, and as others say another iPad could be the same or worse. Plus mine is engraved so I wouldn't be trying to send it back. Everything else about the iPad is so awesome, I just made a movie of my pet ducks that I edited in iMovie, great fun!

Based on what I've read thus far in several forums, light leaks seem to be a common issue amongst all iPads (iPad1, iPad2, white models, black models, wifi, and 3G models). The problem certainly doesn't discriminate. There may be cases in which a user doesn't have the issue, and if so, he/she should consider themselves lucky. I think most of us have experienced this issue, some more than others. I've personally seen this issue on my iPad2 (I never owned the first generation model). I have two small light leaks on the bottom of my iPad2 screen, and they're barely noticeable, but they're definitely there.

According to reports I've read online, LG is to blame for the light leaks, and supposedly, Apple has turned to Samsung as they're primary LCD panel suppliers. Maybe this change of suppliers will solve the issue in the near future... At least I hope so.
