iPad 2 iMovie

Is there a way to get the video shot on an iPhone 4 to the camera roll on the iPad 2 to use in iMovie, besides the camera connection kit? Syncing through iTunes through Photos only brings pics, not video, and syncing through iTunes through Video brings them to the iPad, but they do not show up in iMovie. Thanks!

I followed his exact steps, but he is a little vague on how to get the photos on itunes - I don't have a photos folder on my itunes - when i synced, my movies went to the "movies" folder and were treated like feature films that I have digital copies of - not like videos that I made with a personal camera - somehow I need to figure out how to make my ipad 2 not think my mp4's are hollywood films....

I got it to work using handbrake to convert to an m4v file with similar a/v specifications. If you connect your iPad to iTunes and go to the photos tab in iTunes you can select which folders you want to sync with your iPad. Place the converted m4v file in s synced photo folder and check the box to include videos. Sync your iPad and next time you run iMovie you should see the file in your video queue. Good luck.

EUREKA!!!! IT WORKS User uploaded file

I have been messing with this all afternoon - I just couldn't get the photos/videos to import - I mean I had itunes looking at a folder I created just for this... Then I stuck a couple of regular pictures in the folder and they didn't import.... I was flummoxed - then I looked at the attributes of my new picture folder and the "read only" box was automatically checked when it was created... I unchecked it and ... VOILA!

Zwiller5... if you are ever in southern California, I have a big wet kiss for you... and maybe lunch..

Thank you so much!!

Hi Guys.

after much experimentation I've worked out how to import clips from my Kodak ZI8 into iMovie on my iPad1.

Firstly you need to drop your footage into iMovie on your desktop then export to Apple TV format which is an .m4v.

Secondly you need to change the .m4v label into .mov by clicking and holding the cursor over the .m4v text and then change it to .mov and save it.

Thirdly open iPhoto and drop the clip into Camera roll.

Finally connect your iPad to iTunes, click on your iPad then goto Sync photos, tick include videos and sync.

Voila! iMovie will recognise your external footage!

My blog post here goes through my method of importing any video up to 720p into iOS iMovie and them work. Doubtless there is other software that works but this works for me.

Yay! This worked for me. Just a simple convert with mpeg streamclip seemed to make a big difference. Make sure the video is saved in the DCIM folder or else the iPad won't see it.
Now the question is, why on earth would I edit on the iPad if I'm already at my computer to import, convert, and export the video. I might as well just edit on the computer.
Is there anything like mpeg streamclip for iOS? It would be great to convert your video files straight through the camera connection kit.
