iPad 2 iMovie

Is there a way to get the video shot on an iPhone 4 to the camera roll on the iPad 2 to use in iMovie, besides the camera connection kit? Syncing through iTunes through Photos only brings pics, not video, and syncing through iTunes through Video brings them to the iPad, but they do not show up in iMovie. Thanks!

for anyone looking to do this on a Mac, use MPEG Streamclip which is free and follow Zwiller5's criteria. It works perfectly.

iTunes (on the computer) works fine for converting these files. No need for other apps. Aft you sync back to the computer, select the movie in iTunes then right click, convert for iPad.
And as David noted, it's much easier to work with the movie on the computer (iMovie) rather than copy it to the iPad, coopy it to the computer, convert it, copy it back to the iPad then edit in iMovie.
And if you really want ot use iMovie on the ipad, rather than copying the movie to your iPad first, just copy it from yoru camera/SD card directly to the computer first, convert then sync to the iPad.

I don't understand why you have to email videos to yourself.

A) Videos created on the IPad 2 will import into iMovie on the iPad.
B) Videos import into the iPad 2 by way of the Camera Connection Kit (MPEG-4) will import into iMovie on the iPad. For example, my Flip Mino HD videos will import into the iPad 2 using the CCK and will import into iMovie for editing.
C. If you have to go through the whole process in sending videos to your desktop computer to either convert them or send them to the iPad you might as well edit them on the desktop top computer.

David,

The original poster asked how to get his movies from his iPhone 4 to the camera roll on his iPad 2 without using a camera connection. I answered that in my blog. You can email to video from the iPhone 4 to yourself and retrieve the email on your iPad 2 and save video to camera roll on iPad 2 without syncing to a computer or using a camera connection.

I feel the same way as many of these posts.
--I didn't get ipad2 to just make movies.
--Am very disapointed in imovie.
I have really enjoyed making movies on my iphone (from internal camera), and MacBook Pro (from video camera & still cameras). I wanted something in the middle of these two things, but it seems like the ipad2 is strictly a large iphone, in terms of iMovie.

It’s finally here: the OFFICIAL Vimeo iPhone app

But it's not optimized for iPad nor is there a separate iPad version (though they say they are working on it).

I just downloaded the Vimeo app... Love it! Uploading a video is amazing faster than uploading to YouTube. Video quality is also slot better than YouTube.

It also has a simple video editor.

Still checking it out... So far a 10 in my book.

I think I have a solution for you guys. I have three cameras other than the iPhone 4: Canon 7D, Panasonic TZ7 and the sports camera TS2. All shoot in HD - the Canon in 1080p.

I used the PhotoSync app to transfer videos from iPhone to the iPad. All clips showed up in iMovie. Transferred some clips from my computer from the three cameras using PhotoSync - none showed up in I movie.

Then I used XMedia Recode and recoded all clips using the Apple TV HD preset, and adjusted sound to 44.1. Transferred these recoded clips. All showed up in iMovie.

So I guess the conclusion is - any camera will do, as long as the clip is in the correct format.

Hope this can help.

Sincerely,

Oystein Sæbø
