iPad 2 iMovie

Is there a way to get the video shot on an iPhone 4 to the camera roll on the iPad 2 to use in iMovie, besides the camera connection kit? Syncing through iTunes through Photos only brings pics, not video, and syncing through iTunes through Video brings them to the iPad, but they do not show up in iMovie. Thanks!

If it was that easy I would but I already have 3 high end cameras. Sony, Canon and Panasonic I use them all underwater and have invested a lot of money for housings. Not about to go and buy a cheap 720P camera that records in some stupid format.

I will do just about anything to promote apple and I have just about every product they ever came out with. I was hoping to travel with less equipment.. The solution is apple software or third party hardware not a whole new camera.

If you can plug in a card and read photos, I don't see why you can't or someone will not come up with a way to convert on the fly, video off your camera and import it. I'd pay for it

Try -> http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/reeldirector/id334366844?mt=8

In reference to... (and most of your other posts)
Now that I have to walk around like a fool with a IPad2 shooting video this has turned out to be a total waste of money. I'm so disappointed in Apple. I own everything apples makes but I think my buying days are over. I feel the advertising was deceptive and made so many think it was possible. I doubt when the did the big demos when it was being introduced that THAT video was from a iPad either.

I fell for the ads.

A iPad2 is disposable and easy to take anyplace but turned out to just be toy for now.

From wikipedia...

ReelDirector is another App to edit videos

Correct.
The topic of discussion here is "iPad 2 iMovie" and how to import video into it

Again correct.
You want to import video to the iPad to edit & iMovie will not do it.

The problem with sharing data between apps on the iPad is all data is sandboxed and cannot be shared between apps.
Apple can do it with their own software (iMovie and camera app) but does not allow third parties to do it.

Hi there, not sure if I am posting something already here but this is what I did to get home movies into iMovie for editing...
First, I am using a PC with Windows 7.
Movies files I am using are from a Samsung HD recorder in h.264

- Open iTunes
- Go to Movies, add video clips to the movies folder
- Slecte visioe you want and choose Advanced-->Convert clips for Ipad (something like that)
-Clips will get converted within the movies folder where you just added them (takes some time)
-Once the clips are done, copy them to your photo folder on your PC where you have some still photos you may want to be part of your edited movie
-Hook up iPad2 to iTunes
-Go to Photos on your iPad and choose to sync photos to the folder you just added the videos to
-Sync iPad
- Once done, eject iPad
-Start up iMovie and you should see your new movies!!

Hope that helps User uploaded file

Complicated way.

01) Plug in your iphone in windows so iphone is detected as a drive.(You can also use VMfusion or parral desktop))
02) Copy all pictures and videos to a new folder on the desktop.
03) Transfer it to your Mac.(Or just drag to your OSX if youre using VMF or PD)
04) Open Iphoto and import the folder.
05) Open Itunes and make sure import videos is also checked in the photo sync iphoto option.
06) Edit your movies and in imovies on the ipad choose export to camera roll.(It takes a while depending on the file size so patience is required)

Easy Way:

DOnt know any.

Having read hundreds of posts the simple solution to THIS QUESTION (ie transfer iphone video to ipad for edit- not all these other mad ramblings about formats etc) is not the camera kit but simply this.

Email the video to yourself. Open the email in the ipad so that it showing as a file. Click on the curved arrow in the top right section and click save movie.

Voila! Open iMovie and the video is there for edit.

Have fun.

I too am looking for a way to do this. However, I setup my nikon D3100 and it imports to camera roll and iMovie can see the video and can edit it. 720p matter of fact, 24 fps. I turned off audio in the camera. As for flip / kodak/ pocket cams/ I am waiting to see what panasonic can do after NAB with their p/s and pocket cameras.

For me, it just comes down to just the iPad the camera connection kit and a pocket cam, or my nikon d3100. Maybe a zoom h4n audio, but that is it. I do not want to go to a computer to do any of this converting.

Convert the m2ts files to MOV files using something like m2ts-converter

I don't see this in the App store. Looks like it is an application for your computer.

This topic is about going directly from the camera to the iPad.

iMovie on the iPad is nice but there are much more capable applications for your computer.

It's would be like downloading music on the iPad but then needing to sync it to the computer then back to the iPad to listen to it.
