Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

Greetings Community,

I recently purchased the iPad 2 16GB WiFi only device. One thing I noticed, the WiFi will only work for a short while, then completely stop. I have to disable and enable the wireless to get it working again. Anyone else having this issue? Any resolution? iOS version is 4.3.

Thanks.

Saumil.

It actually could. As working in a IT department for both a media company and freelancing IT for a local church that are all apple based platforms I have as some say 'some' experience with working with any mac product you could imagine. I do not need to copy someone else's work or posts in order to offer my expertise. That's why its MY expertise. And I also happened to come across this recently. Where an employee at the media company brought his ipad 2 in and could not use it inside of the office spaces. It was actually a a lose antenna connection after pulling it apart at a local apple store. Simple fix. So what we can conclude is two things. Take your ipad 2 to the local genius bar and they will fix it. And two I don't need to copy 'all your posts' in order to diagnose a problem. Enjoy the rest of your night.

My wife and I have 2 IPAD2's and an IPAD3. My wife first bought an all singinging, max memory, sim card IPAD 2 and unless you stick it in front of a WiFi access point it is just a brick - useless.

The other 2 have less memory and no sim card and work fine.

Apple just do not want to acknowledge they have a problem and pay for replacements

Trying to figure out the problem. I have two ipad 2's, an iphone 4s and iphone 4. One ipad2 and the iphone 4 have weak wifi reception. I can be sitting in one room and my iphone 4s has a strong wifi but the ipad 2 won't even see any wifi networks at all. It worked fine for a while and i tried resetting the network settings to no avail.

Didn't read all 1100 posts here, but the gist seems to me that nobody has an easy solution except to bend over for Apple and pay 250 for a replacement?

There are some things you can try on your router... like disabling QoS etc. And they have worked for some (not me, on any of 3 devices)

You can't exactly do that in every hotel, restaurant, cafe, train, airport you visit though. The whole *point* of the iPad is that it is more portable than the laptops etc.

A bug that makes it not so portable is a big FAIL.

That's right. People will offer up all kinds of things with the router, etc. but for most posters it isn't that at all. It is an internal problem with the antenna/wifi/whatever. Nothing outside the device will fix it so you're stuck either using your iPad offline or paying $250.

Good news for me is that every time there is a software update my wifi works for a few days after the update. Oh well.

Thanks vkv - solved my problem (20mins and i havent switched wifi off and on yet!) ! My internet on my iPad2 would just not work - would show connected to wifi etc but wouldnt browse. Had to turn wifi off and on almost every 5-10mins on the 450TC1. Also i switched the protocol to just b+g. I also noticed a substantial increase in my internet speed on the wireless devices! Awesome.

Solved!

I had been having intermittent wifi connectivity problem with my ipad2 since two years. Had tried all sorts of adjustments but without buying a new router. Finally after going through all blogs and tips I tried something which I am describing below which really helped. I don't have wifi issue now.

Changed my BT wifi security settings to WPA2. It was defaulted to WPA and WPA 2 which is probably a more modern security but does not match well with ipad2 I guess. Changed my dns in wifi settings to 8.8.8.8 which is google DNS and changed my search domain to www.google.com

I don't know what contributed most but I guess changing the wifi security settings most likely did.

Wanted to share this with the community having ipad2 wifi issues.

Thanks

D
