Intermittent Wifi issues with iPad 2 and WiFi

Greetings Community,

I recently purchased the iPad 2 16GB WiFi only device. One thing I noticed, the WiFi will only work for a short while, then completely stop. I have to disable and enable the wireless to get it working again. Anyone else having this issue? Any resolution? iOS version is 4.3.

I have a Cisco 871 router that is awesome


When I got the ipad1 I had an even worse wifi connection issue. I tried everything and it would get a little better and then go back to awful. Apple would suggest all kinds of time consuming nonsense that didn't work - and then the real kick in the nuts - "we know it's compatible with other apple products." the message I took away was that apple didn't care about their screw-up as long it works with other apple products. Is this their way of trying to push their router sales? It wasn't until apple came out with a new os (6 months later) that it was fixed. IMHO it was crap programming.


I am now having the same problem, though not quite as bad, with my new ipad2. I can't believe apple screwed this up again!


With the ipad1 I could see how they could have an unanticipated problem, 2 years later it is just sloppiness. It is a beautifully designed product, apparently they need to pay some more attention to what's on the inside.


As I write this on an ipad2 the connection has died 3 times and I am 15 feet away from the router.


I realize it may not look the best on the beautiful case, but apple needs to add ethernet ports until they figure out how to build wifi products

maybe you should go to wal mart and buy a new wireless router just to test things out. mobile devices stress wireless routers much more than a laptop or other constantly connected devices.


i had problems with 2 wireless routers in the past (1 belkin, and 1 linksys wrt160). I've since changed to a linksys e4200 and all my problems went away.


if you bring home a new one from wal mart, you should at least be able to make sure it is not your wireless router. if your problem is not solved by the new one - you can always return it!

Updated to latest IOS and cancelled DHCP and started using static ip from the routers wireless ip pool changed the DNS to the Routs DNS. Using this setup about 24 hours and everything seems okay, I hope this will solve the problem if the problem will repeat I don't what to do next, I tried every possible solution advised in the net.

After I went to static ip it started dropping the connection so went back to dhcp with the other settings like beacon interval and it's ok so far. One thing I noticed is that the iPad hostnames is the name in iTunes and of the form your name's-iPad. This is not a valid hostname as hostnames can't have apostrophes. So I removed the apostrophe in iTunes.

Ok - have a Cisco router that is 100 times better than anything sold at Walmart, the current router works great with 2 iPhones, 2 blackeberries, a Mac, 2 windows lap tops, 2 cable boxes and 3 ip security cameras - and a ipad1 - all at the same time. The only problem child is the ipad2, which is having the same problems the ipad1 was until apple fixed it in the os update. And you seriously suggest a new router? My problem was assuming that apple would get their s$&t together in the second go around.


Did you notice that there are thousands of posts on this problem, but apple just shrugs it off? You wouldn't be working for Walmart would you?

i am getting the impression that a lot of you guys reading this post are frustrated that there is NO solution to this iPad/iPad2 & WiFi problem.


let me tell you that there is (for some of us at least).


my problem was solved by disabling the QoS/WMM setting in my TP-Link router.


i can't guarantee that this solution will also solve your own problems. what i am saying is that you just have to be patient and read through this forum & try all the solutions suggested.


the posters in this thread are not Apple engineers/employees, so we have no reason to BS anyone else.


unless they have Apple shares, which i don't have :-(

I bought a new iPad 2 one week ago, and updated it to ios 5.1. The first week was perfect, but yesterday I started encountering wifi issues. All of sudden I lost my wifi connection despite the fact that my iPhone 4 was not having connection issues, so it's not a router problem. All I did was turning off my iPad 2 for 15 minutes and turn it back on and there you go, connection is good for another 5 hours. After that connection problem, again. So I turn it off for about an hour, and then on, still using it without problems for two hours now. I think it's a hardware issue, the wifi card might be overheating, so needs to be cooled down for once in a whike. I'll try my iPad for another week and let you posted for any news.
