I'm also having a problem - there's definitely something wrong here Apple. Very new iphone, never installed any betas or jailbroken, and it won't let me update to 4.3 - the "not eligible for the requested build" error strikes again.

I've tried everything - resetting the iPhone, completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes 10.2.1. Still won't let me install.

1. You are not addressing Apple; this is a user forum and everyone here is a user.

2. Your problem is different from the others in this thread, so it may not get the attention it deserves.

3. Your options are to fix it yourself or to take it to an Apple store.

4. If you have the basic apps the phone has been restored. If it works, just connect it to iTunes, right click on it in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".

5. If that fails you can redownload apps without paying for them again.

Also, as I try to restore my phone after the botched upgrade, it says unable to restore "Unknown error occurred 1604."

Error 1604 is usually caused by USB timing problems. Connect only to a USB port on the computer itself (not an external hub or keyboard port), and if you already are, change to another port. See this article for additional USB troubleshooting:

Also, disable ALL security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware, etc.) on your PC before updating/restoring.

2011-03-13 16:12:14.731 [300:fc8]: iTunes: Restore error 3194

Did you follow the advice already posted several time in this thread to disable ALL security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware) running on your PC?

+"Error 3000-3999: (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3164, 3194, and so on) Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured *security or firewall software is interfering*, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows"+
