Add volume alias to Finder sidebar

I've created a network share on a NAS drive named data. I can add an alias to that share on my desktop and to the dock, but I cannot add one to the Finder sidebar.

At the moment I'm getting around this by putting a folder into the sidebar and putting the alias to the share in that folder but this seems desperately clumsy that I must be doing something wrong.

Could someone kindly point out to me how I add a mapped network share to the Finder sidebar please?

well you could add the network share to the side bar under the section labeled devices. But this will only show up while the network drive is connected.

You can add an alias/network folder to the toolbar of the finder window.

you should be able to add alias files to the side bar under "places." Alternatively you could make a bookmark file, and add the bookmark file to the side bar under places.

If your trying to add a network share to the sidebar by MCX ; it can be added to the side bar under places instead of under devices. But the only way I managed to get this to work was to add it on one computer, capture the preference settings, and then copy those into the MCX on the server.

Unfortunately things added to the Sidebar in the Finder window that are not on the startup drive have a distressing tendency to just vanish, even when the volume mounts automatically at startup. You can create an alias and put it somewhere else, such as the Desktop, and it will stay (as you have evidently discovered). You should also be able to add that alias (or even the original item) to the Finder Toolbar, and have it stay there (anyway, I've added a folder from another volume to my Toolbar, and it is always there and always works). But the Sidebar.....not so much.

I came here looking for the same answer, but by happenstance I just discovered a tip that does it: if you select the mounted drive in your finder window and then select the File menu, you will see an item that says "Add to sidebar" -- worked perfectly for me. You wouldn't think it would take such hunting to find a solution, but at least there is one... (not sure whether or not it will stay there after reboot. I haven't tested that yet.)
