It ships from SHENZHEN CN.

Maybe everyone already knew this.

I ordered at 2:55 AM CST and tonight (Saturday) I got a note that my order had shipped via FedEx.

It ships from SHENZHEN CN.

What might be interesting is that given the time of my order I was pretty early (before they even said they were going to take orders (3 AM CST)), which I assume might mean all the stock in the U.S. had long since gone out to retail outlets. Which also might mean (conjecture) that they could have allowed online preorders into the pipeline before the 11th.

I'm not complaining since I got one at a local BB, but still . . .

+"I guess the point was that if the shipping was going to be slow because of distance they could have indicated that and accepted pre-11th orders so that online buyers got them same day retail buyers did."+

I'm guessing that UPS and FEDEX were not all-too-thrilled with how that worked out last time. They had to store all those units and WAIT until the first sales day and deliver ALL of them. They probably told Apple, "let's not do that again!". The method this time is much less taxing on their system and drivers I would guess.

But all of the great circle routes from any of the major airports in China to the west coast of North America pass over or very near parts of Japan. I think until the really know what is going on with the radiation in the atmosphere, you are going to see the flow of air traffic potentially disrupted, at least a bit.

And I'm assuming FedEx usually flies directly to NA - they do have big hub(s) in Japan, so maybe the don't always route the NA flights directly here and that may further cause problems for them.

Delays in Apple products shipped to NA are pretty trivial though, given the circumstances.

I know that. I was just saying that to get to Alaska (or anywhere else on the west coast of NA) the flights from just about anywhere in China follow great circle routes out of China, and that almost inevitably means passing over or close to Japan. And Flights passing over or close to Japan right now are subject to delays or cancellations or route reassignments and so forth since no one really seems to have a handle yet on the radiation released into the atmosphere.

It ships from SHENZHEN CN.
