iOS 4.3 airplay drop outs
iPhone 4, iOS 4
iPhone 4, iOS 4
UGH - I have ios5 on an iphone4 - doesn't work - didn't work on 4.2 and it still doesn't work. I am really starting to regret all this Apple crap...
My bluetooth is OFF - still drops when playing from phone
imac can play tunes all day long
tried airplane mode - turned on only wireless - no go - still drops all the freakin time...
The fact that they won't even address this is pitiful...,
I seem to have a working solution in place at the moment.
Having changed my wireless security from WPA/WPA2 down to simple WEP (10 character password), my airport express has remained connected and connectable for 2 days running now. I can even reconnect to it after lengthy periods of unuse, and I am no longer experiencing pauses or drop outs during playback.
So far so good, my Apple products are now functioning as they should be.
Ultimately, this is not an ideal fix by any means as I want to have WPA/WPA2 security on my wireless network, but I'll continue testing with these settings for now.
Incidentally the new airport utility app for the iPhone does a good job of waking the airport if it has gone to sleep.
Maybe someone else with the same problem could also try WEP and report back?
Tried WEP, still have the disconnections:

Any other trys using iOS5, I am interested to see if this really could have fixed it.
But as per flips256 report up there, it seems it is still not.
Can anyone share their input regarding iOS5 and the dropouts?
THANKS!
I have iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 and the drop outs are much better, but still happen a few times per hour unless I turn off Bluetooth (or put the iPhone into Airplane mode and turn wi-fi back on). I updated the OS in my ATV2 this morning so I'll see if that helped any.

Well, it took about 45 minutes but audio mysteriously cut out, then the AirPlay icon dropped off my iPhone. Turning Bluetooth off, or putting iPhone into Airplane mode and turning wi-fi back on avoids the issue entirely.
Just used the Sky News app and TV Catchup app with audio streaming over AirPlay, watched for a good few minutes, no dropouts. Tried the iPad music app, dropouts within 10 seconds of the song starting...
Yep, since the ATV update of 4.3.3 it has mucked up The ATV's buffering of movies for me and I also get the disconnection even through the Remote App.
I would have thought that before going into production with a new version that it is tested thoroughly first before delivery to the public. We're not beta testers are we... Thought not.
Apple if your listening, pull your socks up, otherwise your going to generate bad press with this because AirPlay is a big market player, don't stuff it up now.
Cheers you guys.
I'm new to this and no propeller head, however I've narrowed down my drop's to the 'shared' system. No problems running one speaker at a time from either my iPhone or iPad, however as soon as I turn on my 'shared' system via my PC, the drops begin. Drops also happen when selecting only my PC speakers from my PC menue, so I believe that implies it's not a wireless problem.
For what it's worth, Apple's Geious folks best anser was that I need to change my security software I (not setting) ... and I could tell he didn't truely believe that got to the core of, or even would solve the problem.
Help that helps the more technically inclined narrow the serach for a problem.
I've ruled out WEP now too as it started disconnecting again, I wasnt able to pin down what changed to prompt the disconnecting reoccurring.
Danielfromwashtington, if I'm understanding you correctly, you don't experience the disconnects when your PC is off? Or is it even with iTunes open, but with Home Sharing disabled?
thanks,
Mark
Mark - you're correct, I don't experience drops from my iPhone or iPad while my my PC is turned off. I've not experimented with turning 'home share' off while leaving iTunes running on my PC. I'll give it a try when I get home. Thanks for pursuing this.
Dan
Kubelkater - I'm with you - kill the Bluetooth!
Hasn't dropped out since!
I've actually found that just relocating my Airport express has completely resolved my issues. With my regular settings, but with the device relocated, ive been running for over a month now with no dropouts, and no need for reboots.
I was having connection problems between my iPhone 4s and Apple tv and iHome W2 speakers. I updated to the latest iOS software on the iPhone and Apple tv. Everything seems to be working fine for the past week or so. I made no other changes.
Actually they are W1 speakers.
