Connecting to iPad dock in Landscape Mode?

I have a 1st gen iPad and the IPad dock. My case allows me to set with the iPad in landscape mode very nicely. The thing is I have not found a way to dock the iPad in landscape mode and utilize this nice charging base with audio out capability. I did blindly purchase a "dock extender" from Radtech only to have it not work. What happens is it will charge fine but audio comes through the iPad. When you unplug the iPad cable from the back of the base (charging cable that came with iPad) audio then switches to the external speakers. Now of course there is no charging. Would like to charge, listen to tunes, possibly purchase a keyboard for it and just carry on...functioning.
