Crack in polycarbonate case.

I am having issues with cracking of my <7 month old MacBook (the mid-2010 model, 7,1).
The case is cracking on the opposite side of the sleep indicator light, stemming from where the bottom pannel meets the plastic, going up and to the right in an arc, about 2cm long. I take extremely good care of my computer (never have I dropped it, never has it traveled out of the case, or in a backpack) so there is no reason it would be cracked as it is. I attempted to chat with a genius, on this Apple support site, but I found out that I would have to pay money to do that (the most obnoxious thing I've heard this month). I feel as if a $999 dollar BASELINE notebook, shouldn't have this issue, had I known it was going to be so poorly made, I would have gotten the MacBook Pro. However, I digress. What I want to know is if I take this into an apple store, will they fix it for me, or will they charge me far too much to fix something that shouldn't have happened. Also I want to know if this is an isolated case, or if anybody else has had this issue.

Also, I have an issue ever since I opened my 'book to change the RAM. The screws will not stay on tight, they continue to loosen on their own and I nearly lost one of them because of this, luckily I searched my floor for 3 hours and found the little bugger.

It must be noted that I am in love with everything other than these issues, and the lack of support to those who don't spend $200+ dollars for support that should be available to us for free, since we pay for the product so it will not have these flaws.

Bring it to an Apple store & see what the folks there have to say.

I'm not sure which resellers are available to you in the Green Bay area, but Computer World in Appleton has always provided me with great service. Yeah, it'd be a 30-minute drive for you, but it's an option. You could also try calling the store and seeing if they can offer you help over the phone.

I have an older white MacBook (non-unibody) and the lower casing tends to fracture due to the bumpers on either side of the display connecting too forcefully with the rest of the machine. I've applied small pieces of foam to the bumpers to absorb the force, and it's helped tremendously 🙂

Because you live around this area, you too are aware that there isn't an actual Apple Store within reasonable distance, however there is a place that is an authorized reseller (Camera Corner), here in Green Bay, I should take it over to them to see if they have any ideas. I fear that because they are not an actual Apple Store, they won't have the power to, say, replace parts or whatnot. I am speculating, so I don't know for sure, and I will take it in tomorrow. I will update with their response. Thank you for your time, Lyssa, you have been very helpful around this site, for me. 😝

Also, I know of the case problems with the 2008 model MacBooks, they tend to chip and crack where your wrists go. If you were wondering, Apple has decided that they would repair them, even for folks who are out of warrantee. Just a helpful suggestion to you. 🙂 The problem for me is that I cannot live for even a day without my baby, so I am hesitant to send it in for repairs.

Another thing, the Crucial memory you recommended, in another thread, is awesome. I have virtually 0 pageouts, now, even when running photoshop, illustrator, and iweb (or dreamweaver), at the same time, all while running a virtual machine running Windows 7 and gaming. I am impressed.

Hey Peace, Love, Unity (I can't make the Apple symbols right now).

Computer World has been very good about getting my repairs done in a timely fashion. Nearly all of my repairs have been done the same day, and within a few hours. If it's case components that need to be replaced, what ends up happening is the parts are ordered, then you drop off your computer & can pick it up later that day. I think most work can be done there in the shop on the same day, depending on how busy they are.

It would definitely be worth giving them a call if Camera Corner doesn't have much to offer.

And I do know about the case replacements. I have a late-2007 MacBook here, and was told I qualified for free replacements until 3 years from the date of purchase.

Good luck & let me know how things go! 🙂
