Compact Flash Card Reader DIsconnects in Middle of Read

Hi,
I Have used the same Sandisk Compactflash card and card reader for couple of years now. Have a brand new 27 inch c5 Imac and couple of other macs. All of them have recently developed problems reading my CF cards, Have reformatted the cards (in Canon 5D mark II camera) to rule out corruption on cards. Have used my different (about 5) CF cards. Different MAcs - I have 3 Imacs and A Mac Air. All mAcs seem to be suddenly having problems reading my camera written CF cards. Have 2 PCs and they work from there. The only constant seem between the problems seem to be OSX.

Error Message given:"The Disk was not ejected properly. If possible, always eject a disk before ejecting......."

Please trust my intelligence when I tell you that I am not pulling the card or cable out halfway through transfer!!

Improperly Ejected

Running the latest version od OSX on al of the machines.

Solutions already tried:
1 - reformatting cards in camera - unsuccessful
2 - different readers and cables - unsuccessful
3 - different macs and ports - unsuccessful
4 - manually excluding drive from spotlight indexing
5 - Using FInder to manually copy files or importing via Aperture 3
6 - Smaller Imports sometimes works - large imports 4G and over consistently disconnects in middle of transfer
7 - cards & reader works fine on my PCs

for reference I shoot in Camera RAW my avg image(file) size is 25Mb, average size of transfer 4-15Gb

Thanks

i5 Imac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
