Bright spot on screen

My iPad seems to have developed a "bright spot" about an inch down from the top of the screen, slightly off center. It is noticeable when I have a white or light colored background, such as a blank page in Pages, or in the silver of the settings window. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it normal, or is there something wrong?

Thanks!

I have the same issue with mine. My iPad 2 is just under 1 year old. I took it to the Genius Bar in Greenwich CT and they told me that it's not covered under the warranty, that I must have done it by tapping the glass too hard, and there's nothing they can do except sell me another iPad 2. Should I try taking it to another Apple Store or am I completely out of luck? Not happy to find out that my store won't replace mine while others are having no trouble getting a new one..

KM-

That is completely unacceptable. I would not have left the store without elevating that to the store manager and failing satisfaction, asking for elevation to someone at Apple.

I mean "tapping the glass too hard"!?!?!?! Unless it was physically pierced, chipped, or cracked, it could only be an internal failure of the display.

But you need to take it back before the warranty expires- don't delay and let us know how it goes.

Ok so my follow up with this is on March 20 Apple replaced the ipad 2 just like that no fee no questions, in and out in 15min.

However upon trying setup and restore I was not able to connect to my wifi source, I ended up tethereing my iphone to do the restore. If I am 10 ft from router it works but after that it disconnects. It seems to just keep searching for signal when my iPhone finds everything and connects within seconds. Anyone got any ideas or another discussion solving this. Of course I am starting back at the store again later today to see if the device itself has issues

Do you have a recent iTunes backup of the old iPad on your Mac or PC? If so, a wired restore might be less problematic than restoring over Wifi.

But yes, perhaps the store needs to give the Wifi a looking it.

Good luck.

Okay I tried again, and had much better luck this time. Completely different person at the Genius Bar. They looked at it for about 10 seconds before replacing it. Not sure why the other "Genius" gave me a hard time and said I tapped the glass too hard. At any rate, I have a new(well re-manufactured) iPad2 now. I'll restore it from my PC tonight and check it out.. hopefully no issues(or spots!). I believe that my iPad2 shipped on 6Apr11 so I was really cutting it close w/ the warranty (I assumed it was the ship date, but maybe the shipment received date?)

Bought a new IPad and checked the screen thoroughly. After a couple of days I put a screen protector on it I noticed a mark that I thought it was underneath the protector, but on top of the glass. I took the protector off and realised that the white mark was underneath the glass, only seen when the screen is on (better seen on white light). I bought it in the UK and now I'm in China (where it is manufactured but not sold!), so I have to wait until I return to the UK to get it replaced.

A one week old IPad (3rd gen) that already needs replacing, and I'll get a refurb by the time I get to another Apple store (sigh).

Hello.

I saw you managed to changed your iPad from a different Genius bar. Anyway I sent my iPad 2 3G to Apple via mailing service they provided because my iPad is still under warranty (Will end on June). But I have just received an email saying that they will not be able to fix my iPad (it has got two white dots that are visible on light colour) because it is being misused. I just wonder if there is a chance to go to Genuis bar instead and try my luck.. Or will they know, in their computer system, that I have already been declined (once they've check the serial number).

Please help anyone as I am running out of time.. My warranty will end next month.. 😟

Thanks in advance

Hi Michelle,

I actually went back to the same exact Genius Bar. The only change was that it was a different employee that looked at my iPad. My warranty was about to expire as well. I was prepared to argue and show them this thread where many others with the same problem have gotten their iPads replaced, but it wasn't necessary as the Genius Bar guy simply replaced it immediately. I wouldn't worry about the serial number being in the system and I'd try again at a Genius Bar. Good luck!

Oh thanks a lot for your prompt reply. My ipad 2 was shipped by Apple care team today and hopefully I will get it tomorrow or Monday. Problem is the nearest apple store near me is about an hour and a half drive so I might just send it to my Mum as shes got Apple store near her and hopefully they will be kind to change or repair it. Thank you once again.
