When I try to connect to the cellular data it just says iPad or Searching in the top of the screen. It did work last night. If I do a hard reset I can get it to work. Switching Airplane mode on and off to reset the modem does NOT work. Anyone have any ideas?
I don't have the 3G model, so I can't test it out myself, but this sounds bad. If it still did after a replacement of the device, than that points either to a bug in the OS, or to a problem with Verizon.
Same problem here, was not sure if I should exhange (until I read this thread).
Easy way to duplicate: turn off cellular, then reboot normally. 3G will not come back regardless if switched on or off. Only way to turn back on is to 1) switch cellular back to 'on' and 2) reboot. All time consuming...
This is my first post on ANY forum, but I've been reading about this problem since Friday when these iPad2's came out and I finally found the solution after 2 calls to Verizon and hours on the phone. I finally found a rep that knew what he was doing and it was fixed in a matter of minutes... here's the deal:
Go to: SETTINGS>GENERAL>ABOUT and then touch the CARRIER line which probably says Verizon 10.0. When you touch it, it should display a PRL number, like 5XXXX. When I did this, my number was 0. That was the problem.
The Tech had me back up the iPad then go to GENERAL>RESET>ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS. It will ask you a couple times if you're sure and just hit ERASE both times.
**WARNING - THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING SO BE SURE YOU HAVE IT BACKED UP**
The iPad will then reboot itself and go back to the screen where it tells you to connect it to iTunes. Connect it, in iTunes click restore from previous backup, choose the latest one, let it restore then Sync. While it's restoring/syncing, you will see the VERIZON pop up in the top left corner and you will be in business!
If you want to verify, go back to settings>general>about and touch the carrier to see the PRL number has changed.
I tried that already. All the numbers matched with verizon. After 2 1/2 hours with verizon the said it was an Apple issue.
As I said I have had the iPad replaced already. So far I have been all day without 3G service. I have another apple appointment tomorrow morning. I will post more info after words.
Ok I just want to clarify to make sure these aren't two seperate issues
On my issue, when 3G is turned off followed by unit, it doesn't come back regardless of toggle but CAN comeback if you leave it in the on switch, then reboot
Yours sounds like it's not coming back AT ALL.
Two seperate issues? Have you tried leaving Cellular in "On" followed by a reboot?
No it sounds like the same issue. If I mess with it enough it can come back but there is no sure fire way to do it. It might take 4 reboots for it to work, but, honestly in do not have time for that. With the money i spent on it I should not have to either.
Having this same problem on my verizon 3G iPad 2 ... My wife's iPad did this today, but not as often as mine... Dissatisfied !
***** because I want ATT to begin now I have this problem. The first time I resolved this by resetting the iPad to the original settings, loosing all apps. The second time, just minutes ago I was able to fix with a reboot. Wife's was resolved with a reboot but no one wants to have to reboot their device all the time, let alone reset and loose all my settings!
I'm having a similar issue, except mine always says "roaming". Nothing I've tried so far gets me to Verizon. Occasionally I'll toggle airplane mode and 3G on/off and Verizon pops up but only for a moment them it switches back to roaming.
Finally, someone with the same issue. Seems to work just fine, but yeah, says Roaming... Said Verizon until I activated, now says roaming even though I am on the Verizon network.
So after three visits to the Genius Bar and TWO replacement Ipad 2's, here is their "answer". It appears to be an issue with the modem and software not communicating.
They said they would document my issue and send it to the mothership. I mentioned that others were having the same issue they said that unless people GO TO the apple store and show there is an issue apple will not fix it.
So far less then 1000 people have a documented issue of this kind (thats what their records show).
What I have noticed is that if I turn on the cellular data and do a hard reset not the normal restart it will come back 75% of the time. To me 75% is still not good enough. I hope more people complain and this gets fixed or those of us that have an issue are SOL.
