Mac App Store Crashes

Dear all

I have a mac mini since August and this is the first time I faced an issue.
Every time i try to download an app from the mac app store, the app store quits unexpectedly.
I do not have any problems navigating the store. It only crashes when I try to download something.

I have downloaded apps before without any problems.
I always run the latest software updates from apple.

I would appreciate any help you can give me

Thanks in advance

Try removing the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist file to your Desktop. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder, select your startup volume from the sidebar, click on the First Aid tab in the DU main window, then click on the Repair Permissions button.

If this fixes the issue then delete the plist file on your Desktop. If it does not fix the problem, then put the plist file back in the preferences folder.

Welcome to the forums!

Trash (Don’t empty it) the following files:

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist

The path is HD/Users/Your Account/Library/...
If the file doesn’t exist that’s OK.

Thanks ... Ken

That post was dated May 15. If you still need help...

Install the 10.6.7 combo update. Ok to do this even if you are already running v10.6.7

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361

Restart your Mac after the update is installed. Check your Applications folder. Hopefully the App Store was reinstalled for you.

If not, use Pacifist to extract the App Store folder from the v10.6.7 .dmg file.

After i moved my boot disk from HD to SSD, I encountered a few roblems:

1. Safari, Mac App Store, Quick Time all stopped running. The 'orange color' icon replaced the original icons. They all crashed every time I launched.

2. Time Machine still runs, but has the same 'range color' icon.

3. I can no longer change Time Machine backup options. The system requires an admin login and password which I do not recall I set it up.

Trying to eat ready to download Lion. Any help you can extend would be most appreciated.

I was having the same problem. Mac Pro, 10.6.8, unmounted every volume, blown away all of the App Preferences and caches in ~/Library, have rebooted (!!!!), tried the OCSP fixes, etc., and still no dice. When I click on the Upgrade or Buy buttons in the App Store, the program spins and becomes unresponsive. But! it looks like the reason many of us are having this problem is because we all disabled Spot Light. If you re-enable Spot Light, you can begin to download Lion or click Updates in the App Store. Hurray for our side, but **** it... Spot Light is/was slow. Sad fix, but at least things work again.

To re-enable Spot Light:

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

TIP: While debugging, you can learn a lot about what's going on via:

dtruss -af '/Applications/App\ Store.app/Contents/MacOS/App\ Store' > & /tmp/app_store2.dtruss cat /tmp/app_store2.dtruss | cut -d '/' -f 2- | sort -nk 1,2 | & less

10.6.8 here, same issue although I had not disabled spotlight. However, it had been trying to estimate indexing time for the better part of the last 2 or 3 days with the mds process hogging most of a processor core.

solution:

disable indexing on system drive — sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/SYSTEM_VOLUME_NAME

if the command hangs, find out the pid for mds — sudo kill -9 MDS_PID

to find out the pid run — top — once it is running type o then -cpu and press return — the mds process should be in the list beside its pid number

(to get out of top, press q)
