iPhone 4 - Alarm clock goes off, but no vibe or sound?!

Starting yesterday, my alarm clock function - non-recurring, mind you - suddenly stopped giving audible/tactile alerts. Just a popup saying "alarm" and an option to either snooze or cancel. Sorry, but this doesn't work out so hot. Not at 6am, anyway...

Tried upgrading to 4.3 tonight in the hope that'd cure it. But the upgrade failed and I don't have much time left tonight to try again, with the requisite Restore if it fails again. Is there any other explanation why this functionality up and quit? Is it a known by-product of the 'recurring alarm' bug?

Will try upgrading again tomorrow, but if anyone can perhaps help out in the meantime (I.e.: before bedtime..!) I'd be eternally grateful!

I actually haven't had a malfunction since September but now I always use a backup alarm (which happens to be an Android tablet... slowly moving in that direction). I found an event in my calendar that spaned several days over the days that the alarm didn't work and I deleted that event. That seemed to fix it for me, but unfortunately, now I have to be concerned about scheduling multi-day events in my calendar...

I've been having this problem over multiple iPhone models and multiple OSs. I just had it happen on iOS7 on an iPhone 5, woke up four hours late to the "tap to snooze" screen, no sound, no vibration. I do not have any multiple day events scheduled, no events at all today.

Apple not only needs to fix this problem, they need to acknowledge it!

I'm off to find batteries for my alarm clock.

it's unacceptable!

Just so you understand, the moderators do not post here. They do not particpate, Apple does not participate, nor do Mac representatives. This is a user to user technical forum, not Apple customer service. For Apple customer service, you have to call Apple Care.

I've read of people having this happen, however I've never had this occur for me and I've had iPhones since the beginning, and I use an alarm almost daily. Not sure what user troubleshooting that you have done, but the steps are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.

You must not have been following this thread. It happens to people who have done resets and restores. I personally went through 3 versions of iOS (5, 6, and 7) and the problem still happens randomly. There is no precise method to troubleshoot this, no specific apps running, could be on a freshly restarted phone, either on silent or on vibrate or full volume on.

This is a bug with iOS and is a rather critical issue.

I've read this thread and others like it. I was not responding to you. The main purpose of my post was for those curious as to why Apple has not responded on the thread, if you notice the quote that I used. I added the rest about troubleshooting as information only. You notice I also stated I have not seen this behavior on any of the 5 iPhones we have in our house and have had iPhones from the beginning. If it is a bug, it is not manifesting itself for us.

I don't get why some people defend Apple on these type of things. The same happens with the horrible batteries that drop in a matter of an hour. Then you have some poeple saying "hold on, the problem is that you wereusing location services, were you using a GPS too?" well, yes, Apple designed a GPS and location services, that's why it's called Smartphone, otherwise it would be called PHONE.

Stop defending Apple, this is very frustrating. The iPhone is in its version 10 approx., with 7 OS, Apple says it's the best phone out there, well, the minimum we expect is some executive showing up here to bring good news or solutions.

Chris, my apologies if my comments were misdirected. When I read your post about the basics of phone troubleshooting, it came across as being dismissive of the alarm bug.

I don't have a clue why it happens on some but not on other devices, but for those who are affected, this is a very frustrating bug, so tempers may fly, that's all.

Thanks for clearing up regarding moderators.

I think it will be more productive if everyone who is experiencing this issue submits a bug report to Apple by going to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Maybe read my post a little closer. I didn't defend Apple as you claim I defended my phones not experiencing this problem. I provided information that Apple does not come here. That is fact, so the minimum you expect is not going to happen here. This forum is provided for users, such as you and I, to provide user technical support to other users. Whether you like that answer doesn't matter, but that is the way it is. You don't like my post, that doesn't matter either, but it is not going to make that Apple executive show up as you wish.

Apology not necessary by accepted. I did not dismiss the bug, I just said that I did not experience it. The last paragraph of your post talking about feedback is the best post yet. That link is the only way Apple gets feedback. People letting their tempers flare here and talk about Apple doing something is also misdirected, since they dont' come here. It also gets those of us that do spend a great deal of time here trying to help others rather irritated and then refuse to continue to try and help.

I hope there is some resolution to this, but one of the things that makes it difficult to fix is that it can be so random and difficult to replicate. Good luck.

Just to clarify, Apple does not and likely cannot respon to every bug report. They must be getting thousands of them, many just frivolous.

However, they likely do use algorithms to identify patterns and may look into some issues in greater detail.

At this point, we can only hope that submitting enough bug reports regarding this issue will flag it in their system. Perhaps blogging about it would help to bring awareness as well.
