ok guys, i called up apple, regarding the spellcheck on pages and the phone support could do nothing but tell me to restore the device, having done so and not restored the back up and installed a new version of pages and ensured that my OS was up to date there is still no improvement, their solution was to take the machine to an apple genius bar and get them to have a look at it there.

totally inadequate for one of the basic functions of a word processing application. not impressed. ill be going to an apple store next week, ill let you know how it turns out.

The spellcheck unfortunatelly works only if you have set English as your language and the keyboard needs to be US english.

In fact the spellchecking works only in the language of your iOS device. Totally unsuitable if you write docs in more than one language. You could of course change system language on the fly, but that's ridiculous...

But the minimal I can expect is to use the docs I have on my MAC, and be able to use them with my iPad in the same way, without getting the documents frames chnaged!!!

Apple has from the very beginning told everyone various things that get changed when you move a Mac doc to the iPad:

Is what you are talking about included in that?

I am aware of that, but in reality it doesnt work for my documents. It might be that I am missing here maybe something too little! But I know many people who face the same, so this made me feel I am not the only one with this kind of issues!

Whatever, I am tired of that, is there any other application instead of "Pages" that I can use? Something, that makes the smae documents viewable in the same way as on i.e. Mac / iPad, maybe even docs from Windows based Laptop! While on the road I want to use my iPad, I need to edit docs which have been created on Mac / Wndows Laptops.

The main drawback is also, I have to go through several docs in several languages(reports) with graphs cross check, and relate to the master report. If anyone of you ha tried this you will know what I am here talking about! Even in English it keeps going back to US English, despite having UK English set as main languages! Sometimes, it just overlooks English versions, where I can get at times three four different English(australian, US, Canadian, UK English) spellings in one document!

Is anyone in a similar situation, have you found a sure way to overcome multi-langual document issues - either in one document or its different language versions?

It sounds to me like you probably need to use a laptop, where you can run the full version of the MS or Apple or other software in which your documents are created, rather than the iPad with its limited capabilities. The device most likely cannot me your requirements at this time.

Well, I have never intended to create any new docs with my iPad. Early-on, I thought the advantage with iPad will be to read / edit documents that has been produced mainly through my Windows based Laptop / Mac.

Most often I am trying to avoid using any Microsoft software. So far Openoffice, meets more than enough my needs and I do feel its more stable, than comparable Microsoft software options.

However, its been a pain to get that kind of documents to my iPad, especially those which have graphs, pics i.e. various functions within one document. and be really productive on the road. I just seek feedback / ideas for this to be able to do incl. the various language version, that I need to be able to use in one document related or, various documents not related to each other .i.e. must be able to change quickly between languages, and graphs etc related documents. It would be very useful, if I could use its automated ability to predict correctly languages!(Chinese / and various European languages).

Anyone, experienced the same and found a workable solution to this?

Well, now I understand in that case it disqualifies documents created on windows based systems. But than why wouldnt it work with documents that were created on my MacBook as this runs on OS X?

Or it might be it doesnt work with all OS X version, could this be the case?

Also, if I receive docs, how can I know straight away if I can use it on my iPad to utilize the automated language function?

Automatic language detection for spell checking has nothing to do with documents. It is a function provided by the OS. If you are running OS X you can have it, if you running iOS you don't.

Pages is a special animal in any case. The OS X version does not yet use the OS X automatic language detection feature. Instead you tag the text using the Pages Inspector. The iOS version of Pages has no way to tag text and doesn't recognize the tags made by the Inspector in OS X.

True, but up to a point. The iOS spellchecking feature is normally paired with the keyboard used to type a specific text. In most applications, if you type using a French keyboard, the app is smart enough to understand that your text is to be spellchecked using the French dictionary, and so on. Pages, instead, starts from the basic premise that you'll write only in the language you're using your device in. So, if you use English as the language of your iPad, you can spellcheck in Pages only using the English dictionary. Which is weird and makes no sense. Every other iOS writing app that I know of allows you to write in more than one language.
