i cannot transfer purchases from my ipad to my pc

for over a month now, i could not been able to transfer purchases from my ipad to itunes. when i try this manually, a very quick count of transferring is shown in the info panel in itunes (approx. 10 seconds). But nothing is actually transferred to my hdd. My problem is i have around 600 apps installed on my ipad.
Please be sure about these before answering to my thread :
- My pc is authorised for certain.
- i' ve tried the "deauthorising-authorising again" action with no luck
- i' ve only used one itunes account while purchasing the apps.
- i' ve uninstalled and installed again for several times (all the apple products (itunes, quicktime, bonjour, mobile device support etc.)
- i' ve an iphone 3gs, authorised with the same PC. and can transfer purchases without any problem.
- for several times; when i connect my ipad to itunes, it urges me to restore to a previous backup. without any choice i do that. I find my notes etc turned to the previous back up version. But i also see the apps (which i cannnot transfer to itunes)remained undeleted.
- i have never jailbreaked anything. I am a good App Store customer.
- what i find while googling, i saw that i am not the only one facing this problem. Several users experienced this over 2 years. the only solution people find and recommend to me is to jailbreak and ssh into the ios system. they say this one :

"It appears to be a permission issue (probably due to the upgrade from 1.x to 2.x).

I changed permissions on a directory and removed a file and it seemed to work again.

chmod g+w /var/mobile/Media/ApplicationArchives/
rm /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.archive.plist"
i don' t want to do this.

- my biggest problem is i cannot upgrade to ios 4.3 because of this bug; because that, i cannot backup. Think of several apps that have files in it and customizations. think of long sized and timed games that are saved in the middle. i cannot start everything from the scratch.
-i cannot purchase them again inside itunes. Because i don' t have the long list of those apps which refuses to transfer.
-this makes ipad unreliable.i cannot trust it anymore while backups are not reliable.
- i have enough space on my hdd
- i am using win7 ultimate x64 and using the latest x64 itunes version.
- of course i tried different usb ports, different original usb cables.
- my hdd is in good state
- nothing is wrong with the iphone backups. I can backup iphone 3gs with the same pc.
- i' ve tried desyncing the music and trying with that, also done this with the movies, podcasts etc.
- i' ve choosen the "sync newly installed apps" option. Also my apps are thicked (choosen for sync).
- For hard reset, when i press the home + sleep button together for 10 seconds, it only shuts down. And shutting down is very fast (maybe 3 seconds).

I recently bought an iphone 4 to replace my 3g. Same problem everyone else is having. Several apps from my old phone won't transfer to itunes, so I can't sync them onto my new phone without repurchasing them. That's not a problem for the free ones, but the ones that aren't working aren't free.

I did accidentally re-purchase one of these apps while I was trying to figure it out. After deleting the old one and repurchasing it, it transferred over fine (and when I reported it as an accidental purchase Apple credited me for the price).

I've searched for several days for an answer and haven't been able to find anything else that works.

I've been searching around and have found an abundant number of complaints regarding this topic in numerous postings. I'm curious as to what Apple is doing about this. I don't want to pay for support as I'm not the only one who is experiencing this. Anyone have any ideas as to how to get Apple's attention over this issue?

Solution:

I was having this problem too. Nothing would work.

Finally got updated. This is what I did.

  1. Took Screenshots of EVERY screen on my phone. Apps, Songs. & transferred them to computer via Image Capture.app on Mac.
  2. Transfered Purchases on iTunes. (Appeared to work despite warning returning.)
  3. Backed up my iPhone in iTunes.
  4. Synced.
  5. Backed up again.
  6. Applied update to phone ignoring all warnings.

Update worked. Verified nothing was lost by comparing earlier screenshots to post-updated phone.

Everything is all good. 😎

I was having a similar problem for months but with my Iphone 4. Spent some time with it and found that it was hanging up on an app. I deleted it from the phone and voila, Itunes started syncing again. There is a window under "ITunes" at the top of the screen, it tells you what its currently working on. If it keeps stopping on a particular app you know you've found the culprit. The apps seem to download alphabetically which can give a helpful clue. Best of luck to all with this stubborn problem and thanks to those that posted with advice.

Mustafa, I am not sure if you have solved this yet but I was experiencing a similar issue with my iPad 2. I recently purchased a movie while i was out of town on my iPad. When i returned home to sync my iPad i couldnt get iTunes to transfer the movie from my iPad to my laptop. I searched for a while (which is how i found this thread) but couldnt find an answer.

I think i just solved the problem, though I am not exactly sure which step of what I just did solved the problem, so i am going to go through all of my steps.

First, I went through my apps and books on the iPad and removed all of the apps that I dont use regularly (from iTunes on my laptop with my iPad connected) and sync'd the iPad to remove them all completely.

Second, i double checked that my computer was authorized with the correct apple id.

Third, I noticed that my laptop was a bit short on storage on this computer. I emptied the trash which cleared up enough space and went back into iTunes. File>Transfer Purchases from iPad... and boom, it started transferring.

I suspect the problem was one of two issues. First, I think there is a chance that there wasnt enough space on my laptop and rather than inform me of that iTunes just wouldnt transfer. Second, I believe that there was possibly a corrupt application on my iPad. I would try what I did if I were you just to see if it works. Hopefully sometime between your last post and this one the problem was solved for you, but if not, hopefully this solves it.

I have the same problem. After upgrading to the new ios5 my iphone will no longer sync and music or video files. After 2 full days of research and trying anything and everything anyone ever posted about this issue I was able to determine that something is happening in the sync process that breaks the entire sync - as I discovered it was the fact that the iphone is not capable of transfering my purchases from the phone to the macbook pro.

I've tried everything suggested in this thread and had no success. I'm suspecting that the iphone somehow made a corrupted file on it's own during the upgrade to iso5. I've tried resoting from backup and everything else (but smashing the **** phone with a hammer) and so far no luck. The only thing that is left is to format the entire phone with is what I am trying to aviod as i have a lot of apps and information on these apps that I dont want to loose (like financial information, drawings, photos, etc. things I can't recover if I wipe the phone clean).

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS?

I swear I will never do the stupid ios upgrades ever again if I get this thing to work.

I'm also having the same problem with my iPhone4. Tried to transfer to Mac and PC, didn't work on both. Tried the hard reset, de-authorizing and authorizing, anything that I can find on forums EXCEPT deleting codes. My phone is also not jailbroken.

Any help is appreciated. I'd hate to manually download the apps to the PC since I've installed A LOT for my child.

Thanks!

I had exactly the same problem with my 3rd generation ipod touch & my Macbbok Pro. I had purchased music in the past few days which just refused to be transferred.

After attempting all of the 'solutions' posted here and elsewhere I finally managed it!

This is how (I think!!):-

I unchecked all the sync options in itunes - music, apps, photos, movies, tv shows- the lot!

I then synched the ipod touch which removed everything (there had been a regular message about not enough space, when there was! So that spurred me on to remove everything)

On my ipod touch, I then downloaded all the recently purchased music from icloud, even though it was already appearing on my ipod touch as having ben downloaded.

When it had all been downloaded I then went back to my laptop iTunes and asked it to File>Transfer Purchases from ______'s iPod...... and it worked!!!

They all went whizzing into my library!! I have no idea why, unless it was a memory problem, but all I know is that it worked.

Now one of the reasons I'm posting this is because my memory i so bad I'll be able to find this when the problem reappears!!

Hope this helps!

I had the same problems with the restore option and oh so many attempts to rectify that !

Same problem here with newest iTunes 10.5.1 and iphone 4 with iOS5.0.1.

Both in Macbook pro and Windows 7 PC. I cannot fully transfer apps!

Only partial apps are transfered although the iTunes says it's transfering exact numbers of apps in my iPhone.

Stupid iTunes asked 'applying changes...' thingy when I click Apps tab after transfer finished. I said yes. Only a few apps to be seen. Next I said no and it blew up my apps in my iPhone. WTH!

Same phenomena in both OS systems may indicate that it's not Mac or Windows PC problem, but iTunes.

Apple should work on it harder because a lot ppl lost their data already!

Apple, looks simple but works the opposite. Very disappointed.

Hey guys,

As I am writing this my apps are being transferred to my iTunes. I've read the entire thread as I also was frustrated and in quest of finding an solution. But as it turned out for me, it looks quite easy. Basically, what I was missing and I am guesssing it could be the same issue for many of you, is that I should sign in to my iTunes account first (under Store > iTunes Store. Click on the top right link "Sign in".). Then they ask you for your authorization, which you will accept and after that you can choose "Transfer Purchases from ..." and the real transfer will begin. Of course iTunes developers could have implemented a simple yet better error messaging. This might have prevented such long threads of many people having the same problem.

Perfect timing, as I am done with this reply, all of my apps have now been transferred. YEEEY!!!!

Hope this will work for you 😀
