Just a heads-up, if you have maxed out your authorized computers (or you have replaced your computer, or authorized it multiple times), you can choose to deauthorize all computers:

Once you deauthorize all, you can then authorize the computers you're actively using.
One more big shout out to Richard --- I was losing it -- SO ANNOYING!
Thank you for stopping an all out temper tantrum!
But what if you're using iTunes on more than five computers? (Crazy, I know, but there's a lot of computers in the family, especially if you also have one at the office.) DV
Richard i could kiss you right now!!! i was going mental...THANK YOU!!
Oh no! The cure hasn't worked for me. Feeling very sad now. Any other ideas on how to cure it?
Many thanks.
I only use iTunes at work to sync my Outlook calendar and contacts. My company has blocked the iTunes store in their internet filter. So I am prompted to "log in to the proxy" FOUR TIMES, every single time I open iTunes as it tries to connect to the iTunes store. How irritating. I have the iTunes store, podcasts, etc, etc disabled in iTunes. Everything you have all advised also. I can't enter my Apple ID because the proxy filter is blocking it. I am using Windows 7. Any more ideas??
