Can't install OS X 10.1.1 update

Hi everyone,
I've just bought this laptop and recently installed OS X 10.1 on it. I've downloaded the OS X update for 10.1.1 from the Apple website, but my machine won't let me install it.

I get as far as selecting the disk I want to install to. Mac HD is greyed out and I can't select it.

There should be loads of room on the HD, so that shouldn't be a problem, I've also tried turning off file sharing, Has anyone else got any ideas?

Hi Darren!

I think a 4GB HD & 160MB RAM is not going to be enough to run any OS X very successfully, and Tiger, not at all.

TIGER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

-A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
-Built-in FireWire
-At least 256 MB of RAM
-DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
-At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools

You should consider getting a much larger HD, and as much RAM as possible.
I'm not sure of the limitations of your Mac model, but someone else may provide that info.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I thought that Tiger would be quite unrealistic on this model.

10.1 runs perfectly well on this system, cos minimum Ram is 128MB. That's why I'm really after the updates for 10.1, but can't seem to install them...

Theres only a couple of bits of software that require a later version of OS X and they're only really asking for 10.1.5 at the most.

Has any one got any thoughts on the problem I'm having with the updates on Apple website (see start of thread)? Or is it worth trying Jaguar on this machine?

Darren,

I'm working on that same problem tonight, trying to update my husband's iBook. According to this page:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcomboupdate10_15.html

the system requirements include a security update and an installer update, to be installed first, before you can do any OS updates.

On the linked installer update page, you get told to go to a newer security update instead of those two updates:

http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n120136

As soon as they're downloaded, I'll try installing the security update first, then maybe the 45MB combo update will work.
