3G internet not working on iPhone 4
The wi-fi works fine and I have full reception.
Anyone know why this is happening?
I'm on Rogers.

Thanks to GZukes for the tip regarding resetting my iphone by holding sleep/wake button and the home button - it worked!!!! I have been trying for hours to find this info. Thanks to kelseyc for putting out the question. This discussion board is a great resource.

Another great resource is the iPhone User Guide (which describes the reset method as a troubleshooting technique by the way - see Appendix B). This manual is available at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf).
My Iphone 4 is also having the same problem and i am from the UK. when the phone is reset the 3g is on but after using the wifi for a long period of time the 3g just disappears. then the wifi is turned off there is no 3g and there is no way to reconnect it. it says in the settings that the cellular data is turned on. this problem has only happen in the recent weeks, when apple updated the phones iOS. Apple need to sort this out ASAP, as its annoying that i have to reset the phone to get a 3g connection
Hi,
I was having the same problems. My iPhone 4 didn't connect to the internet via 3G, WiFi worked fine. In order to find out if the problem was caused by my iPhone or by my SIM card, I cross-changed the SIM cards of my wife's iPhone with mine. Both phones turned out to work fine with the SIM cards exchanged. After changing the SIM cards back, I tried connecting the iPhone to my Mac and syncing it with iTunes, resetting it by holding the wake and home button and resetting the cellular data network settings by pressing "Reset Settings". None of this worked.
What fixed the problem for me finally was this:
In the cellular data network setting pane, instead of just pressing "Reset Settings", I deliberately changed the settings I found by adding some nonsense to most of the fields. After that I pressed "Reset Settings", the original settings were re-entered and the internet connection via 3G started working again. This behavior seems kind of strange but apearently, if the original settings haven't been changed, a resset doesn't really re-enter anything... So if you try this, make sure to screw up your entries before you press the reset button.
Hope this helps.
Thank you so much. I had this problem and resetting my phone didnt work. But I did what you did and its working perfectly. Thanks a million 🙂
Hi,
I find your solution very interesting, but one thing bothers me: where I can find place for changing settings which you mentioned? When I go to Network>Options are only on/off 3G/Cellular Data/Data Roaming/Personal Hotspot/VPN/Wi-Fi, on the other hand, on Settings>Reset, I have only options to reset: All Settings, Erase All Content and Settings, Reset Network Settings (Reset or Cancel), R. Keyboard Dictionary, R. Home Screen Layout, R. Location Warnings.
So, please, where I can do what you did?😕
Thanks.
Hello,
I'm amazed and pleased that my little hint is actually used by people. Apparently this problem is not a rare one...
Anyway, you will find the mentioned settings under:
Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
On my iPhone, the item "Cellular Data Network" is located between "Cellular Data (on/off)" and "Data Roaming (on/off)". Please note, that I am running the latest iOS-Version (5.1.1). Maybe this item sits elsewhere in earlier versions?
Hope it helps.
Thanks for quick reply,
Its wierd, but I haven't that option under Network, only: 3G (on/off), Cellular Data (on/off), Data roaming (on/off), Personal Hot spot (settings), VPN (settings) and Wi-Fi.
I have iPhone 4, 32GB, T-Mobile, Croatia.
Anyhow, problem solved with complete restoring (without backup! with backup didn't work) on factory settings.
Then everything pull back with iTunes and PC (for iOS apps which have PC support, no jailbreak).
Thanks again!
And yes, I'm on 5.1.1
Thnx
